YZ250F 2018 YZ250FX clutch noise when clutch released

I bought a 2018 YZ250FX last year and have put an awesome 22 hours on it. Beginning to ride multiple time’s a week now that the weather is nice. 
Anyways, I’ve noticed in neutral with clutch lever released there is a slightly whirling or grinding noise. Almost sounds like a noise bearing, but I’m doubtful due to the age and hours on it. I believe the noise is there anytime the clutch is engaged, but harder to tell in gear.

 

quick search and I found nothing. Anyone experienced that before? Just regular clutch noise?

Normal.  All bikes do it to a degree, its the transmission rolling over in neutral.  An alloy skid plate makes it more noticeable.

The next time you have the clutch cover off, grab the clutch assembly and see if it wiggles. Then once you are familiar with that feel pull up and down like you are checking for a main bearing. That can tell you if the mainshaft bearing is going bad. Probably just normal noise.

Actually it is funny that you post this. I got my brand new 2020 250FX and I usually ride with ear plugs but I was doing some tests without earplugs and noticed the noise a few weeks back. So I recorded it just for the record. See if yours is similar.

I’d say its normal. I have a 2019 YZ250FX and my clutch sounds the same.  Zero issues with my clutch and transmission using Rotella ?

Yup, EXACT same noise no question about it. I believe it to be normal, just never noticed it before. Likely transmission spinning while in neutral. It’s a constant mesh trans

Thanks for this post. I have a 2022 that I just picked up after my beloved 426 died. I was overly paranoid about this noise as it’s brand new, expensive and I’m just nervous after my previous failure. Love the bike so far. It’s light and nimble in the trails. It doesn’t hold a candle to the whomp of the 426 though lol.
