I know atleast down here you would easily be able to get a used yz125 for in that price range, I do also get the appeal for Getting a ktm (as I have 2 of their 4 stroke models)Jimmy Lewis actually did a yz125x build before they offered it

the prices for the yzs are all over the place and i cant seem to find any good one here:( but i have been looking and if i can get that 125sx for like 2k then probs will go for it. there is also the kx125 https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1446976609 seems to be good but what are they like for enduro/trail?

I think the problem with the KX would be parts. I’m sure they are available but Kawasaki stopped making parts for those things a while ago. But the price is more right. http:// https://www.kijiji.ca/v-dirt-bikes-motocross/calgary/2008-yz-125/1445519857?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true. This one is decent might be too far but

that KX is in pretty good shape and the price decent. Keep in mind it has been out of production for some time, so some parts may or may not be an issue. Nice bike though and 125s are all pretty similar. Gonna have to ride aggressively witht the throttle and clutch. Rewarding when done right.

Yea but i think im going to stay clear of that one since i was looking for parts and looks kinda difficult to find them plus i just finished selling a scorpa sy250 because parts were impossible to find. So probs want something that would be easy to get parts for

They go for about that around here so if it was clean in person it would be worth it. Especially if the guy isn’t BSing about it having a brand new top end . Parts are readily available and an 08 might aswell be a 19 .

Hopefully someone else chimes in about some things to look for as i have been burned on used purchases. Two strokes should always start in 1 kick or 2 cold, look for rust and lots of play in the steering head or linkage bearings. make sure to ask the guy why he is selling , how he rode like what if it was mx or enduro , ask the guy what type of oil and what ratio he normally premixed it at. And by that I mean crude,or semi synthetic or full synthetic. To my understanding for the most part brand doesn’t matter but mixing the types of oil is the problem. make sure there was no evidence of metal Mulisha stickers (haha). Sorry for not being super helpful in this part.

Thank you sooooo much this really does help. You have been the most helpful person on this forum so far for me so thank you. DO you know of any other bike that would work for the type of riding i do? (which is enduro/enduro cross)

YZ or KTM in your price range. That's it. Some freakish reason you found a TM, then that would be awesome.  A YZ or KTM mildly set up for off road with a flywheel weight would kick ass off road, just remember it is still a 125 and needs to ridden as such.

Not a problem. Happy to help. I would stick to either the Yamaha 125s or ktm 125s. just because of parts availability. A 250 2 stroke is a lot bike . 250 four strokes are my number one preference but I would only buy new when you can afford because a four stroke used could be a complete money pit if it has a real problem. If a ktm pops up for the right price I’d look for one that isn’t an SX model because you said you are riding technical trails , the I think xc models would be the better buy as they have internal gearing more suitable for off-road and plusher suspension . You can always change the sprockets. I have never seen a ktm 200 go for a reasonable price around me but people love those bikes so it would be something to keep an eye out for as it will ride a lot like a 125 but have more usable power.

Yea i think will stick to either a ktm or a yz. I am hopeing to be getting a 2020 ktm 150 xcw next year but in the meantime i am looking for a 125 smoker so that i can get used to them since i am coming off of a 4t.

Also what are the rm125 like ?

The RM125 was always in the middle of the pack for shootouts but was always the best in corners and whatnot. It would be another case of parts being hard to come by as they stopped production around the same time as Honda and Kawasaki. I would personally stay away from any two strokes from a company no longer producing them. I had several RM250s and it would go down as one of my favorite bikes at the motocross track.

ok will probs stay away from because of the parts thing. Now if by some amazing chance i found a tm how hard are they to get parts for?

125s are a whole different beast than riding a 4t but the fun factor is so high once you get used to it. When I get off my ktm 250 4t it takes me a good couple minutes to remember how to ride the 125 but it comes right back and you learn to stay in the proper RPM range .

Cool! I have ridden a yz 85 lately and it was a blast lol even though its a pile of crap in the trails lol. And when i rode the yz 125 it seemed fun but it was to big for me then and kinda scared me lol but now im bigger and much more experienced i should be ok i think. And thank you soo much for helping
