Project YZ Shee

Recommended Posts

A few months ago I acquired a Az titled frame that I was going to swap an older engine, plastics etc over to the newer frame and do a resto mod kinda thing. The deeper I got into the 87 I realized the bike was way to nice (and 90% restored) to molest. So I decided to build a banshee powered Yz. I always thought they where neat and since I love to fabricate and like a challenge I figured this would keep me out of trouble for a while.

The frame is a 97 YZ250 frame that has been converted to a Pa street title. The engine is out of a 99 banshee, the engine came complete drop with many aftermarket parts.

Got the main frame tubes bent at the local race car shop, and I had a friend of mine tig weld every thing together for me.

The offset is a little excessive to get the sprockets lined up.

ever consider going with the rz jugs for the powervalve?
Wicked motorsports in CA can get close to something like 80hp out of their 385cc builds. :jawdrop:

Maybe once I get it all together and ride it a little.
I thought of doing the 4mil crank and the Serval cub cylinders.

That's a serious build, what's that put it at like 421cc i think?   I have heard those cylinders still have reasonable bottom end.

I have an rz350.... well a project rz350.  I haven't made much progress in the last year but eventually she will get done.

THAT is gonna be KRAZI-FAST   , you gonna supermotard , dual purpose or just freeeek people out in traffic with that 2smokr cloud ????

why not do the shifting linkage ? --it would save the left case in the event of a crash and shifter hitting something -the linkage would get distorted instead of cracking the case ,,, if you have the 4wheeler linkage ends , you can redNek engineer the proper length shaft to work like you prefer , also it would open footpeg placement , forward/rearward NOT limited to solid shift lever location like on the YZ origionally  ,, since your already making the dream machine ,, really make it fit your size feet and such -  of course you have to make the brake lever on right side match also

my buddy in baltimore did a street 2smokr with a 1983yz490 motor into a xs650special frame  (650 motor had bullet hole in right side center case )  he worked all winter got it really nice = hardtail lowered rearend , slid front tubes up Tclamps , stainless downlow expansion chamber , cafe styled the entire thing , minimalist , put historic tags on ,,  rode a few times and got pulled over for 'non standard muffler emission compliance'   motorcycle are NOT checked for emission controls in maryland ,, YET ,,, however the glennburnieMVA has created a law that secretly screws ALL biker citzens

talk about a kick into the ole ballsak

wunderful libturd diktatorship of maryland demonkrautz ,, green new deal krapola for decades ,,  the state of maryland has 'outlawed alterations' of stock OEM exhaust systems on motorcycles licensed in the great state of idiocracy    ,, the first thing EVERY owner does is modify/replace  pipes to sound kooler or get better performance and THAT is illegal in maryland according to the allmightys on high at glennburnie MVA

granted most police are too busy to chase down exhaust pipe issues --- until some crybaby azzhat that claims to be triggered by the unholy noises from those biker skum outlaws ,,, and then makes the proper number of phone calls to the proper angry future liberal representative who knows the right number for the police dispatcher and now police persons are chasing down a slow moving noisy motorcycle

NOT chasing those street riding dirtbiker wheelie kings running no plates , no helmets  , no educational aspirations , no future for society

post photos of the build in each stage for us to drooool over ,, save up for the speeding tickets

What's wrong with gear shift linkages?

Nothing wrong with going linkages, I got huge feet, and with the tank I’m trying to use I need to keep the engine all the way forward about an inch more. Since the shift drum and gears are modded to run no clutch from 1-4 just pin it and rake gears I’m going to seriously look into the linkage system on it.

Then why did you say that the hardest part will be to figure out foot controls without a linkage system? That made it sound like you are going to work as hard as you can to figure it out without using linkage.

Not a fan of it, I like to keep things simple with off the self parts.

  • 1 month later...

I haven’t made as much progress as I wanted to lately, been very busy with the Family. Made some progress tho
I ditched the 2001 IMS 3.6 gallon tank for a 2002+ Clarke tank fits nicer and leaves room for the carb.
Picked up 2002 yz250f forks/triple and rear shock. 2008 yz250f wheels and swing arm.
I was at GPMX over the weekend and seen a short shifter on an AJP PR3 after talking with owner of the bike they gave me their bent spare to take home and try “I think it’s the same as the crf230f” going to order one and find out. IMG_8711.jpgIMG_8710.jpgIMG_8883.jpg
