CRF Rally Rev Range

Recommended Posts

New to forum, and new to the CRF Rally. Have to say I'm enjoying both ?.

My question is what rev range do you guys sit on at motorway speed- say 60 mph?  I realize sprocket and tyre size changes everything, but curious to see what rev you (and the bike) are happy to sit on when on the boring motorways.

Currently I'm running a 13/40 set up and 60 mph (highway speed here in much of Australia) is 7000 rpm.  I'd like it lower but enjoy the off-road performance gains with the smaller front sprocket. Happy to change the ratios if there's a better combo for off-road and motorway running.

Cheers ?

Welcome to the forum! I personally run 15/40 because I wanted my rally to at least live up to its name. Performance drop from gearing was made up by exhaust. im running 5800 at 60mph (dash says 58 but ratio is now off). Ican ride aggressive in tight stuff with the help of judder spring removal and stiffer clutch springs. The only issue was the front sprocket is so large you have to take off case saver and install sprocket, chain, and case saver onto the shaft all together otherwise it wont go on. Its a close fit but the chain has never touched case saver while riding. Its preference, I have a motocross bike for tight stuff...wanted a rally for rally stuff.20180914_145222.jpeg20180914_145315.jpeg20180914_145241.jpeg

I have a stock geared 2018 Rally. I like the stock gearing for both on and off road. I do not wish to change the gearing because I would lose Highway comfort going one direction and off road ability going the other. IMO with stock gearing it just needs a bit more power in low revs for off road use with stock gearing. This should be accomplished with FMF Q4 with 1-1/8" insert, megabomb, EJK, and snorkel/backfire screen removal. This bike is my daily driver so it sees a lot of highway use. It feels really comfortable at 65-70 mph indicated. Above 72, or ~7300 RPM, it starts to get a bit buzzy. I already have done the above mods except for the FMF Q4 and megabomb. I can let you know if I achieve the desired effect when I add them next month :).
