TX300

Recommended Posts

Just brought home a new TX300 and need to start adjusting the suspension, I'm 170lbs and do a lot of single track on places like Vedder. Can anyone help me get an idea of where I should be suspension wise, I've set to the book but it still seems pretty stiff.

Thanks,

I've found the shock to be pretty darn close, maybe needs a bit more  high speed compression damping.  The forks are just too stiff in compression.  I had good luck pulling a fair bit from the stock shim stack, but a call to MX Tech for their leaf spring midvalve kit will solve all your worries.

Also, I've found the fork seals to have a crazy amount of stiction - including the air cartridge.  They need to be disassembled and greased.  Luckily, these forks are stupid easy to work on with only a couple special tools.

Shantel,

Having others setting up your bikes handling, is like playing guitar but not knowing how to tune it.

I'll give you one piece of irrefutable advice, get the front to rear balance right.

Beyond that, start with the factory set up.  Learn to ride it the way it is... then figure it out from there.

I think the best thing to do is keep setting the suspension softer and softer, dampening and spring preload, front and rear as equally has you can. When you first notice the front suspension bottom out, stop making adjustments. It's hard to notice when rear suspension bottoms out but you will feel and maybe even hear the front. Then on a loop you always ride, gradually make small changes until the handling feels best.

You can spend your summer trying to set up/tune the suspension.  Or you go with a local suspension company that knows how to set up for popular riding areas near you.  Be honest and detailed on your skill level and the type of riding you do, and i think youll be very pleased with results.  Then fine tune from there.  Nice bike

Holy moley girl, that's a lot of bike to hold onto, very nice machine, congrats. I ride a 300 GasGas. Break in the suspension and if you are not comfortable, try Drew Smith at Works Enduro Rider, he is a single track guru. He has set up my 300 Gasgas and my total restore 94 Cr 250. On both bikes Drew shipped my suspension back, I checked the shock sag and I never had to touch the shock or fork again. Next week I am sending him the suspension for my total restore on my 1984 RM 250 E.

Here is my Honda that Drew did for me. It is super smooth on single track and never deflects at all.
