Thanks...I'm bout to pick up a 02 as I currently have an 01 but the cylinder got a big gouge when the piston broke....looks like I'm just gonna swap the cylinder from the 02...I like the 6 speed in my 01....will the cranks interchange?

Not sure, check part numbers and aftermarket RMATV for that. You can put the 6speed in the 02 cases. Use everything. Have not done it, but hear the 98-01 will work in 02-04.

I have a question....

So my whole life I've always wanted a 2001 YZ125 .. maybe cuz that was the year I seen a Yz125 for the first time idk I was 12 then and never ridden a dirt bike in my life but that specific one has stuck with my heart to this day... I'm 31 now and just bought my very first dirt bike and it's my dream bike "2001" YZ125.

So I put 2001 in quotations because that is what the bike was advertised as and what the owner told me it was(no title)... but upon reading this forum I'm hearing that the 2001 has 6 gears (which mine does as well 1down 5up) however I gave the VIN # to a parts store trying to get a carburetor that is specifically made for this year make and model and it came up as a 2002! And according to this forum it's been stated that the 2002 only has 5 gears??? So what's going on can anyone help me out as to what I'm supposed to do and how I'm supposed to go about buying a carburetor and any other parts I'll be needing or wanting to buy in the future? I tried looking up the differences between the '01 & the '02 YZ125 online and on YouTube and cant find any real information comparing the two... only from what's in the HAYNES 2-STROKE MOTOCROSS BIKES 1986-2006 OWNERS WORKSHOP MANUAL. I'm desperate for any and all help and advice people can give me and I'm in even more desperate need of a carburetor for my YZ and a rebuild kit wont do as the tang for the float needle has been adjusted so many times prior to my ownership that the metal has broken off and all fuel comes pouring out thru the valves when I turn the fuel to on! I got alot to learn and I already lost 19yrs waiting so Please help me live my dream and get to rippin as soon as possible!

*** Carb that came with my YZ was a Mikuni 36mm FlatSlide and along with misc riding gear and other parts I received is a Klein PWK 36mm RoundSlide (which I've discovered to be a knock-off from Amazon) is installed now and is having problems as shown in the picture below... 2002 YZ 125 OEM carb according to the Haynes Manual is said to be a Mikuni TMXX38SS which I cannot find anywhere online and the additional numbers I get asked for such as TMX 38-??-?? I do not know****

Thanks to all who comment and have advice and wisdom to share with me... you are all appreciated more than you know!
