Anyone run an inline fuel filter?

Back before I quit racing enduro and harescrambles we always ran an inline filter but it seems nobody does anymore. Does everyone rely on the little in tank filter only?

I don't think it's as crucial for the moto guys because they have time to clean the bikes up some before opening up the fuel cap.

never heard of one on bikes, never seen one.  never seen the in tank ones have any problems, weve had over 100 bikes throughout the years. minibikes from the 70s to brand new ktms.

I use them on my 2T's, but not my 4T's. I need to have a think about that lol. It's just an "oldschool" thing I think. Must be habbit. Was always the fist thing we'd put on the 2t's, sometimes the only thing.

 

I have an inboard gas cap on one bike. That's a rippa for getting dirt in the tank. I take the tank off and flush it after every ride when it's on the 4T.

Yep. One of those goes on all my bikes. And the kids bikes too. It's super cheap insurance. The tank mesh filters are unreliable and let me down more times than I can remember.

I run a plastic on my street bike with a slightly rusty tank but on my cfr250r no.

 

With that said, I drain the tank once a year and pull the petcock/fuel filter for a look and clean or replace as needed.

 

I've read a number of KTM topics with guys using Golans low micron steel filters as well as running filter socks in the tanks.

 

IMO if you ensure your running good clean gas, keeping dirt out of the plastic tank/gas can, then checking the OEM filter you most likely don't need to run an in line filter BUT they are only a few bucks so it wouldn't hurt.

 

As well it might be more critical with EFI bikes

I used to run one on my 2 stroke. It was an elbow and fit perfectly. One of the first things i did to my bike when i took it home brand new. I'll see if I can dig up a photo. It was an 05 yz250 and I never had to pull carb to clean any jets.

Yes, I have one on very bike I have.  Like someone said - cheap insurance.

Just look for one that will fit lol.

I do them on anything whether it's my bike or a lawn mower or whatever. Super easy. Just cut fuel line>slide a fuel line clip on both ends>install fuel filter> then pinch the clamps. Takes 2 minutes and hey, why not?

lol get a Briggs and Stratton law mower one from lows. That will probably fit lol.

I have had to install them on some of my small bikes to fix problems, and I put them on all my new bikes as I move up bike sizes.

I have also seen the tank internal screen disintegrate, probably from long exposure to ethanol so you can't always trust the internals.
