Which supermini has the most low end grunt

Recommended Posts

It don't answer you specific question, however. You asked about the best SuperMini for low end grunt, and I thought about Chase Sexton.

It's 75% rider skills, and 25% bike in competitive events.. don't matter if you race hare scrambles, enduro, or mx.

Unless you got some skills, the best bike is not what wins races... the best riders do.

If you most usable power than a crf150r. There's a 16 year old kid I have raced with on one. He finished right behind me once and right in front once. I could not believe how fast the bike was going down the straits. I have a speedo on my bike. I was doing 65mph and couldn't catch him.

The crf150r pulls good off the bottom, a little better than the kx100 .

The kx100 is going to have a stronger overall motor compared to the 85s. Both the cr and yz are not power valve motors. Peak hp is good but they lack bottom end.

They tend to hit harder giving the illusion of more power.

Honestly if you want the fastest small bike either kx100, ktm105 or a crf150r.

They all have there plus and minuses.

Ohhhh I thought I was missing something but I ve heard that yz cr don't have good bottom end. I would want something with good bottom end do you have any suggestions

I agree with GreenMT..

The 150R can be modified to be a very nice/strong bike for what you are competing in, that being hare scrambles and enduro events.. I have a close friend and co-worker that bought his son a 150R, had some engine work done (bigger piston, cam, port/polish work, and exhaust, and that bike runs with the bigger bikes in open desert rides, hills, and tight stuff.. (similar to hare scrambles).

The 150R has a fair/good bottom-end stock, so it wouldn't take much to improve the bottom-end if that's where you want the most performance. For starters, you will have more cc's than the kx-100 or ktm 105 out of the gate. That's a plus.

I think the 150R would provide the most/best low-end performance stock or modified.

Just my 2 cents..

150R's haul arse. Being a four stroke it would make a good supermoto race bike due to good compression braking. The only issue is getting one that the valves aren't already ruined. Many are in need of top end jobs and some needing more.

So would a kx be a terrible woods bike or enduro bike

If it's ok but could become better what could I do to make it better

May in the past have said the KX100 is THE mini to buy for trail riding.

Power valve and extra displacement being the reasons why. I personally did fine with a CR85 but it wasnt technical trails.

There are after market power valves available for the kx 100. The stock one doesn't work great. 200$+ stroker crank is around 200$ to make a 105.

I think the 85 Ktm might have better off idle than a stock kx 100.

I'd do a 105sx unless you want a four stroke. The 150 is impressive.

If you want more bottom end have the cylinder cut and a head mod. This will lower the ports which helps low rpm power.

A reed spacer also helps. There some pipe mods you can do also.

Then comes the big mods that were previously mentioned like stroker crank and big bore.

The kx100 is a good platform to start with. It more than likely will be enough bike as is until your ready for a full sized bike.

Like I said before I'm 195lbs and it pulls me around just fine.

After riding dirtbikes for 35+ years it's more about rider skill that the bike.

The kx100 is a good bike for building skills with.
