KTM vs. Husqvarna 2 stroke line

Recommended Posts

Ok I would really like to iron out the finer details of the differences between these two manufacturers.

Is it just different subframes that separate the two?

Transmission/engine differences?

They are pretty much the same bike right? Just comes down to looks?

I feel like there's a lot I don't know about Husqvarna and all the threads I've searched are old.

Im liking that husky swag and was thinking about making the switch for my next purchase.

Yeah, seeing the introduction of the cross country line for the Husky's, there really is no difference between the two brands other than subframes, plastics and the various bolt mounting spots on the fuel tank and frame for those components.  The frame geometry, quality of parts, gearing, etc is all the same when comparing apples to apples bike groups. (SX/SXF to TC/FC, XC/XCF to TX/FX, and XCW/XCFW to TE/FE)

Also, it seems the Huskies come with Magura clutches where the KTMs have the brembo. I don't have enough time on a Magura to know which one is superior. My brothers 150sx has a magura and seems to be working fine.

I do like the brembo on my 300. It has worked flawlessly for 150 hours.

My Duke 990 had the Magura. It sucked terribly.

Many problems from the master to the slave.

I agree. There's something about the Huskies I like a lot. It must be the white, blue and yellow combo, but they are beautiful bikes. The only thing is, I wish they made a 150 TC based on the KTM 150 SX. I currently ride a 125 sx and for my next bike I really want a 150 for just a little more, yet I don't need the output of a 250. I might end up just testing riding a Husky TC 250 though if I can find a dealer willing to do that, and if I like it maybe I will just end up with that instead of a 150.

Not hard to find a Kiehin on ebay or get a Lectron.

Are there any electronic jiggies or sensors in the lectron that can crap out? I want one all the performance reviews look great. But are they reliable? Do they ever fail?

Just don't want to get caught with my pants down way out in the bush. Naw meen?

Really prefer the thought of an aluminum subframe. Much easier to repair.

Yes "repair" being the key word here

That plastic is pretty flexible is it not? Maybe stronger? Are there many husky failures that you've heard of?

Edit: the early models seemed to have problems with subframe cracking. They may have gotten that sorted with a new carbon poly mixture time will tell I guess.

A little bit of weight goes a long way with a light rider

Huskie does make a 150 tc and what is nice about it is if you buy the 150 you get a complete 125 top end and piston.. Like getting two motors for one. Dealership I just bought my ktm 150 has a 2012 husk 150/125. I almost bought it, still considering it.

Not since KTM picked up the brand, now its only a 125. This year you can add a 150 on the TC (800$) top like we had with the CR/WR the TE is the old style motor so top and bottom. KTM isn't giving out the kit's anymore.
