CRM 250 any good?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've been riding my old 250 4t for a while and its time for a change, a 1992 CRM 250 has come up for a good price as a complete bike but stripped down for a rebuild that was never completed.  Does anyone know anything about them, any issues with them, and does the electronic power valve give trouble?  I believe its the MK2 or 2.2 version

Thanks.

Even if that particular model year was good or bad,

a 24 years old, non-running, dis-assembled, obsolete parts, MX race bike is guaranteed to have many un-expected issues during re-assembly.

Your current bike runs, this one doesn't and could be a long time until it does.

If you like restoring stuff and into 'vintage' bikes, could be a nice long term project,

if you prefer riding more than wrenching, rather find a bike that's currently in running condition.

Thanks for your advice maltour,

I decided in the end to get it, as I have a bike for the time being and though it would be a good project.  I've spent a fair few hours in the shed tidying it up so far, though I'm waiting for parts to come from overseas before I can really start on the engine.

Its an enduro bike and they're not supposed to rev very high so I'm hoping that with a wossner piston and a fresh rebore it should last reasonably well.  It's certainly the sort of bike no-one else will turn up to a ride with  ?

I believe they are worth a fair bit done up, although there isn't much of a market for them over here as they were only imported privately.

Here are some pics of it the night I got it home:
