Wrist Braces

Recommended Posts

Had a fall last July and am still battling with wrist pain when riding and any slight bending of the wrist (even picking up my kids). Dose anyone know of a good wrist brace that allows movement to a degree and is specific to riding? Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks guys, will look them up. Feel like such a knob though as I had unloaded the bikes and then walking down the ramp from the back of the truck and sliped, face (hands) first into the ground. No beer involved either so no excuses. I just can't believe it is still giving me problems. Anyhow, thanks. ?

What about something for numbness?

My thumb goes numb after riding for a while and can really start to bother me.

Will those wrist gaurds help that? Does someone make something else to help?

Here's my response from the last time this question was asked:

I have a bad *left* wrist and need to wear a wrist guard. I have looked at them all, even the Allsport Dynamics brace which I would buy if I needed to. But here is what I ended up with - a Pro Designed wrist brace. http://www.prodesigned.com/accessories.htm

I'm a long time skateboarder, but gave up the vert ramps when I turned 38. I used Pro Designed kneepads and wrist guards the last few years of skating. By far the best pads available on the market for skaters.

What you need to do is call Wild Bill at Pro Designed and order the braces. Just tell him you are going to use them for skating, otherwise he will talk your ear off. After you give him your measurements you will get the braces ($45 a pair) in the mail in a few days.

When you get them, very carefully take the stitching out all around the plastic palm guard. I originally used a razor blade, but for the last set of guards (I got 2 years out of the first set), I used a stitch remover from my wifes sewing kit). The plastic is also held in with velcro so take that all out and remove the palm guard and all extra material completely. Then resew up the piping around the edges.

I made the mistake last time of asking Wild Bill to remove the palm guard before he sent me the pads. I was all stoked when I got the package, until I saw that he resewed the pocket back on with at least 3000 extra stitches. It took me about two hours to remove it all. If you just take delivery on them as is, it will take you all of 15 minutes to get it removed.

You then wear the guard over your gloves. It's a little strange the first two to three rides but after that you don't even notice.

Before I started wearing the guard I was spraining my wrist every time I rode and landed hard. That's NEVER happened since I starting wearing the guard.

With all of that said, I have never worn or even tried a guard on my throttle hand. I might some day, just have never needed to.

The thing about the Pro Designed guards is that they are VERY high quality and the straps are very long (to fit over your glove). None of the other guards I looked at (even at skate shops) were comparable except for the Allsport.

Get 'em. You'll be happy.

I had a wrist that was painful to pick up a tray of food in a cafe. Wearing a very minimal wrist wrap really made it feel better. My friend couldn't figure out why it help, far too wimpy.

After going to a wrist doctor, I found out the ligaments to a bone in my wrist were pulled out and one bone was slightly rotated. I had the two bones fused so I wouldn't get arthritis when I get older. I lost some range of movement, but it feels better. If you have long term chronic pain, you migth go see a specialist.

I use the EVS brace while riding. Though I have been waiting for something like the CTi brace, always remember in a hard hit, the weakest link is going to break.
