New Decals not sticking on edges?

Recommended Posts

Mine have the same problem, just for a little sliver of maybe a 1/4 inch. I was thinking of trying some contact adhesive.

I have heard of using clear nail polish but I haven't tried it yet, I'm trying to see what every body else thinks I should use.

I had a similar issue with some name brand graphics I got off of eBay. I think the adhesive was compromised because they were left in my shop for a while and I installed them cold. With my graphics it was only the corners that wouldn't stick, even after I hit them with a heat gun. My solution was to round off the corners. Once I did that for some reason they stayed on just fine. If I had to do it all over again I would make sure the graphics were warm and pliable before installing and still keep the heat him handy for the contours. I've heard of people scuffing new plastics for a better bond but honestly, if you do a good job cleaning and drying them the graphics "should" stick.

By the way, nice looking bike.

Is it on new plastics?

The person I got it from said they new plastics but they had a couple rides on them.

What do you mean by rounding them off? And thanks for the compliment [emoji106]

Those "brand new from ebay N-Style" graphics you purchased haven't been printed in the last 5-6 years.

You took a risk when you bought old stock for a cheap price. Adhesive has a shelf life and will degrade quickly if not stored in the correct environment (temp/humidity/UV).

Now you know why most pony up the cash for actual "new" graphics, you get what you pay for.

I understand that, but that wasn't my question. HOW can I make it stick. With all do respect I didn't ask why it won't stick.

You need to understand why it won't stick so you don't do it the next time.

Plastics come with the mold release still on the plastics. If you don't remove the mold release, graphics won't stick. You need to clean it well with alcohol.

To answer your question, trim it off with a knife past the non-stick area, otherwise dirt and water will remove it for you in a short time.

When I install graphics I always cut a liberal radius to any pointy corners. Points will be the first thing to lift so just round them off before installing.

Simple, peel them off, don't make the same mistake twice and purchase new graphics.

I'm not gonna do that. I don't have money to buy new ones so I can't. I asked how to make them stick not for somebody to tell me to buy new ones. Sorry
