Question on side panel fitment

Recommended Posts

While removing and installing the side panels to remove the seat I noticed the panel on the left (clutch side) does not sit as flush with the gas tank shroud as the the right side does. The right side is perfectly flush with the gas tank shroud while the left side panel although in place correctly (taps are slid in place properly) is not perfectly flush where it meets the gas tank shroud.Has anyone else noticed this on their bike?

Are you positive the tabs are in their holes? For both mine and my sons bikes, I have to finagle the panel to get the tabs in the holes. Once I do, everything lines up well.

I agree with CRD .... I would have to go look at mine but I believe they line up well and every time I take them off .... it is a pain to get them back into the right place.

Mine are like that too. They are in their tabs perfectly, but one side won't stay flush. "Pops out", so to speak. It's still in all the right tabs, etc, it just will not stay flush. I can push it back down, but a few seconds later it pops right back out. I finally just accepted it. Mine is on the back half though, not where yours is.

mine does this with the Corbin installed but not with the stock seat .... I thought the OP was questioning the shrouds around the tank

On a related note... Can someone please tell me what the thread pattern is on the bolts the hold the bodywork on? After I installed the flatlands radiator guard one of the screws that holds the left shroud on is too short. Not sure if they were supposed to include a longer one... On the original topic mine do the same thing by the heat shroud.

Double check that they really are in place .... it can be tricky. I've struggled with them before.

I was wrong! I did not have a tap correctly in place after all.Once in place panels fit together like a glove.Glad to see Honda is still on par with fit & finish.

  • 1 year later...

Had the same issue, would push it in, it would hold, then pop back out a couple days later.  Found the rubber grommet was partially coming out  of the hole on the bottom, didn't catch it the first few times I looked for it, worked the grommet back in place, and it's good.
