FMF Powercore 4 on FX?

Recommended Posts

So I've been running the Powercore 4 muffler and am very happy with the power delivery but I just got a good deal on a 4.1 Ti slip on.

Anyone else running a 4.1 on their FX?

The spark arrestor looks restrictive, anyone tried it with and without to compare the power?

How do you like the power, did you need to remap the ignition?

I still haven't pulled the trigger for the GYTR tuner because I am ok with how the bike runs stock.

On my modded F the Ti 4.1RCT seems to have a broader delivery than the Ti powercore it replaced.

I have not tried the 4.1 without the screen, but will next timeout. Sound seemed quieter with the 4.1

Remap is not required, in fact I have gone Back to the stock map (YZF).

Bite the bullet and buy a tuner, the monitor and diag functions are worth the cost alone

Tuner is on the wish list just behind the Twisted Engineering bars and suspension oil change.

I played with a tuner for the first time on my fx this week. Man what a difference you can make to the power delivery and curve of the bike. Bump it up to the number one position on your wish list. You will not regret it.

1st ride test with FMF 4.1 muffler.

Started out with the S/A installed. It is a quiet core with a screen on the end of the tube and restricts the exhaust flow a lot.

Totally killed the power, had to rev the motor because it had no bottom end pull, constantly downshifting, hard to loft the front wheel.

Only plus was it was very quiet and very smooth power delivery.

I took the S/A out for the balance of the ride and bike ran good but had no noticeable improvement over the Powecore 4.

After I got home I tried putting the cone shaped screen S/A from the Powercore 4 in the 4.1 and it fit perfectly.

Next weekend I'll get out and see if this combination works as good or better than the Powercore 4 with the S/A installed which I have been very happy with.

Can you post a pic of that insert? Pretty sure mine only has the removable screen sparky.

Thought all 4.1 silencers were the same..

This is what it came with. never used, sealed in bag with stickers and the snap ring that holds it in.

Per FMF website this is 94db insert with S/A for 4.1 RCT muffler.

I see they have a S/A screen only also for this muffler so I may just buy that one and put the S/A back in the Powercore 4 and sell it.

Wow, nothing like mine... I can see how that would choke the bike up a bit.

Thanks for the pic, others have mentioned it on other threads. My RCT came with the screen only

Guess the quiet insert only comes with certain versions? Honestly after seeing that pic I would have never even tried it, looks like a metal tampoon to me.

FMF has been out of stock on the screen only S/A for awhile (and still are) so they may be sending these instead.

it certainly makes the bike quiet but its like riding a stock WR with it in.

Guess I'll be running the S/A from the Powercore 4 until they get some in stock.

FYI

YZ250FX muffler - 6.41 pounds (my digital fishing scale)

FMF Ti Powercore 4, part number 044424  - 5.71 pounds (my digital fishing scale)

Advantages

Weight savings: 0.70 lbs.

spark arrestor, which I need.

Flows better than stock ?

Bling factor

Downside

Cost

Someone said their muffler with the Pro Billet SA end cap weighed 6.8 pounds.  The end cap costs $150 and isn't going to improve the flow of the stock muffler.  The FMF PC4 weighs 1.1 pounds less than stock plus PMB endcap and flows better.  And you can sell it separately when you sell the bike.
