FMF Powercore 4 on FX?

Recommended Posts

I have the Ti Powercore on my 14 250F

I understand you are asking about FX

Likes for the F

Quieter, crisper sound and sparky insert.

Dislikes

Minimal weight savings if any

Sticks out further than the OE

Provides no measurable-felt change

to the power delivery or output.

Was the "bling" worth the price.. NO

The sparky and DB reduction were.

Thanks.

I found a smokin' deal locally on craigslist so I bought it yesterday.

The guy had only used it a couple times. He didn't have the spark arrestor so I just ordered a new one.

Mounted it up last night, it is longer than stock and louder than stock without the sparky insert.

Am surprised that FMF didn't shorten the headpipe to move the muffler closer to stock location.

Even though its sounds louder the tone is much lower and less raspy than stock. Once I add the sparky it will probably be close to stock.

Motor is definitely freer revving compared to stock.

Mine is the alum/ss one and it is 1/2 pound lighter than stock muffler.

I weighed them both and the FMF is 4.8lbs and the stock one is 5.3 lb.

Not sure when I'll get a chance to ride it, still extremely hot down here but our monsoon rain season is starting up so I may be able to get back up to the mountains soon.

Good to hear it's a more worthwhile investment on the FX

I'm waiting on the monsoons as well..

What part of AZ are you in??

  • 2 weeks later...

Finally got out to try the FMF Powercore 4 muffler so here is my opinion.

FIT

Bolted right up, no issues with mounting.

It's 6" longer than stock due to the mid pipe length, muffler is about the same size but mounts back farther.

Don't understand why FMF didn't design it to mount in stock location???

It mounts up a lot like the '15 WR250F muffler so that was probably their mock up bike.

WEIGHT

Like I posted above, it is 1/2lb lighter than stock.

POWER

Definitely has more, stronger bottom and mid and revs out waaay better than stock muffler even after I removed the "euro" baffle from it.

Seat of the pants dyno says it has a lot more torque and a little more hp.

It makes excellent offroad power, long and torquey. Maybe the longer mid pipe improves the power?

SOUND

A bit louder than stock everywhere, idle to rev limiter. Has a deeper tone so it is less raspy sounding.

OVERALL

Has a spark arrestor which was why I bought it.

Also I got a smokin' deal on it at Craigslist.

Love the power but not the sound level.

In my experience you can't make a small bore 4 stroke quiet without killing the power, you can have one or the other.

I prefer not to ride loud bikes but most of the areas I ride in are unpopulated and not shared with other trail user groups.

I may buy the PMB end cap with turn down (had that setup on my 350XCF) and see which one I like better.

Here are a couple videos of same trail and camera set up.

also was it much difference in power with spark arrester in vs out , I'm considering getting this pipe for my fx

Did not change any mapping.

Haven't ridden it without the s/a but did start it in garage. It was louder and the volume of exhaust coming out the end cap felt substantially more so I would expect it to have even more power.

Thats good to hear , I race hare scramble and ride state parks also ,so i need a pipe that performs well with with a s/a to keep me legal when visiting the state parks

Exactly which muffler are you guys talking about ?   I don't see a Ti Powercore 4.   Only an aluminum one.   And FMF doesn't list a muffler that weighs 4.8 pounds.

Weird it does not show up on FMF's site but part #044424

I bought a Ti Powercore muffler for $235.  The 4.1s were starting at $500.  I couldn't justify the cost difference for the extra power and to lose a bit more weight.

I mainly needed a new muffler for the spark arrestor feature.   But losing a bit of weight (0.5 lbs) and gaining a bunch of power will be nice added benefits.

Same here, but I really doubt the power difference will be noticable.

Put the fmf pc-4 on the 15 wr250f and a very noticeable difference from bottom to top. Now working on the seat height and the above idle jerky throttle. I have the gtr tuner and have tried a dozen maps and settled on the one that makes the most-smooth power. It is lean on bottom with advanced timing and goes fatter with less advanced timing on top. This may take away a little top end but will preserve it when bouncing off the rev limiter which I hardly ever do, or I am I thinking to much like a 2 stroke guy? I tried Jimmy Lewis's map from dirtrider but thought the bottom hit to hard. Shows you how much better of a rider he is than me.

I will try the g2 throttle cam, according to f-pilot it is the fix.
