Dented muffler repair

Recommended Posts

Yeah thats in the bent and dent dept...............

I have seen dents removed for the most part by sealing up the pipe (duct tape, caps clamps...... ect) and filling with water then put it in the freezer. The water will expand and push some dents out BUT that one is pretty bad............

Drill out all your rivets, grab a steel pipe, find a flat surface and roll it out (from the inside). Scotch brite it, pack it, rivet it.

We did this with a crushed Akrapovic on my fiances F4i and it came out perfect. The problem area is the end cap, you'll need to work that nice and easy, take time to get it back into shape.

I don't have a before picture :( but the can was crushed at the lower end cap. The cap itself wasn't salvageable in my case, so we built one.

Looks like it has seen better days forsure. Those would be to much work to get out, it would be wise to pruchase a new muffler. Try reaching out to http://piperepair.com/ they might be able to do something. Not sure if he is doing mufflers but its worth a phone call. They do great work and we refer all our customers to them.

I'm a DIY guy as much as I can and MSFIT's pics are impressive though I don't have any where near the shop I can see in the pic.

Give MSFIT's process a try and post some pics of your results cus you have nothing to lose at this point

This is pretty much what I'm thinking, if everyone thinks its junk I might as well try to repair and if it doesn't go well then I'm right where I was.

I'll post an update when I get around to working on it.
