CAM BEARING QUESTION

Recommended Posts

When I took down my L the seal on the bearings on the cam seemed strange.  there was a bearing seal on  "OUT" side of the bearing on the cam sprocket end the other side was open the other end bearing was open on both sides.  which is what I would have expected on both.  is this correct,   to have one seal?  cant tell by the parts diagrams.

thanks all

It's ok. It's part of lubrication system, if you had no seal on the timing sprocket side your camshaft and rockers would have oil starvation because all the oil would go through the bearing, but there is no seal on the other side because the bearing needs to be lubricated too. And you don't need a seal on the other side because you need that bearing lubricated, but don't need any pressure for it, it's not halfshell bushings, the excessive oil that is not needed for cam lobs need to get out too, so it's just a part of lubrication system ?

About how much jack I figured,   the ext valves are cupped very slightly and the coating on the shafts is starting to wear so Its a valve job and new valves too.  18k total so I will replace the timing chain probably don't need to but I want to NEVER as long as I can ride off road which may be a little as 10 years,  I don't want to have to take it apart again.

Yes sir!   the K&N got Shit canned immediately and So TWIN AIR or UNI filter?   the Twin Air sounded easier to clean as it is all one unit where as the UNI is to separate foams.

A Friend sent me this:

between my motor going south way too soon and this test review I will NEVER use a K&N again and will likely highly recommend to anyone I talk to NOT to use them also.
