Steering lock stuck

Recommended Posts

My bike has been outside I tried to move it in but it is stuck in the locked position ..I don't know if frozen or rusted ...wd40 in hole and around did not help...what can I do???

Sometimes I had to turn the handlebar a little to the right and press & wiggle the lock with the key inserted!

If course I never had ice in my part of the world!

When you unlock the bike you have to compress a spring before you turn the key. Make sure your 1.) Inserting the key all the way. 2.) Pushing downward on the key until it stops moving. 3.) Turning the key to the on position while maintaining pressure on the internal spring.

When simply turning the bike on/off you can just turn the key but when unlocking you must push down with a fair amount of pressure before turning the key

Mine has been wanting to do that to! I don't know how I get it unstuck, don't really have a technique. I've just been wiggling the key around. Sometimes I have to push the key down and then to the off position.

I am pretty sure you have to push down and turn ... it may even say "push & turn" on the switch .... too cold for me to go out and look

there has been a few times it locked up on me, i just turned the bars a little bit both ways and she unlocks... i am sure you are flailing her all around by now and have tried doing this with the bars... lol

its kind of like turning the wheel of your car all the way before you take your key out of the ignition... you have to turn the wheel a very little bit while turning the key to unlock it again.

I don't know about steering lock, but my key got stuck in on a trip so I couldn't get it off.. I guess the hole fills up with crap pretty quickly. Lots and lots of Wurth Rost Off and it's all good again. ?

i will say this too, my key is a little finiky to get in the hole sometimes.....   ( save your comments wise asses... lol) maybe its me with gloves on, but sometimes she just doesn't want to go in...  i'm not monkey fisting it either...  i believe finesse will get you farther then force...  or i should say most times... lol

I’ve had good luck cleaning/conditioning lock sets with a product called Deoxit. It is marketed for cleaning electrical connections (awesome on switches and such…), but flushes and leaves a dry coating that prevents oxidation in key holes, too.

I solved it with a spray called 'solve it' . Just sprayed inside the ignition key hole and it worked right a bit after. Thanks

Check to make sure your key is not bent/twisted either. Only the ignition lock goes that deep so you are twisting it when you use the gas cap or the helmet lock. That’s next on my list to get some shorter keys made for those
