keihin fcr (non-mx) 39mm carb setup and tuning question

Recommended Posts

I just want to say thank you to everyone who had an input and catered to my noobness. It was very helpful especially for someone like myself with little knowledge about carburetors. I did exactly as you guys said and the bike fires up immediately and holds a smooth idle.

While I had everything apart again I installed a R&D remote fuel screw. So tomorrow I'm onto tunning.

Would anyone have any good tips/input or know of any good threads to read on carb tunning that would relate to my fcr carb?

There is nothing too scientific about tuning the carb, just use recommended settings and see how it runs....

Remember we are here to help you out if you require assistance...the smart way to learn is by asking questions, don't worry we were all noobs at one stage in our life..lol

Eddie has a well documented tuning guide for your pilot circuit....http://www.thumperta...ad.php?t=327405

Oh, way cool.  Your carb did come with an adjustable pilot air jet,  Install the screw thing with the spring, seat lightly and back it out 1 turn.  That will equal approximately a 100 fixed air jet.

A some point in this thread I thought you said you had a pilot air jet marled 100.  Yes/no??

The suduco kits come factory with the adjustable kits. Mine was the same way.

If you don't already have the flex screw, you can save money and buy the standard one. A standard extended fuel screw will fit in fine in the slant body FCR. Only the MX version has clearance issues.

My Carb Tuning results are here. (Since I have that same carb)

Sumoquid, Thanks for the help, I have just bought a 05DRZ400SM with the same carb you have on yours (has several mods done to it already, by previous owner, air box cut out, cams, FMF full exhaust)  I have that same port below the choke knob (enricher) on my carb like yours has and have been trying to find out what it is for, I can hear air sucking through it when engine running, but if I connect mine to the fuel shut off port on the fuel valve like yours my engine will die, or if I just stick my finger over it engine will die. I am beginning to think that they tuned the engine with this intake leak and am worried how much dirt has been injested into the engine!! also wondered why you added the manual fuel shut off valve?

Generally it is better to start your own post rather than tag onto an old one with a somewhat different subject.

The item on your carb is called a "Coast Enrichener" or just CE.  Yes it can be removed.  Run a hose between the 2 nipples on the carb and remove the nipple on the head and plug the hole with a short 8mm bolt.

An alternate method is to plug both nipples on the carb and replace the 60 pilot air jet with a 100 pilot air jet or an adjustable pilot air screw set 1 turn open.

Now that you have found this forum, no need to look any place else. (How is that for blatant horn blowing)

Truth.

Not to get all sappy, but this forum is the best "help" forum available for any bike. That's the crappy part about riding a WR250X now, there are no forums for that bike like this one. Hell, I don't even own a Z anymore and I still click the DRZ400 page just out of habit.
