  1. Hi all, I am in need of some tires for my ttr-230, and just curios if anyone has a brand the have good experiences with. Ill mostly be riding in dirt and mud, occasionally Ill be on the road but not for long distances, any recommendations for this type of riding? Thanks in advance :)
  2. Hi everyone! I've been reading posts for several years and normally I can find the answer to the current issue or modification I'm digging into with the wealth of knowledge here. That is until now. Here's my issue. At the end of last riding season my chain broke going up a hill. The chain then got wedged in the front sprocket (my fault for running a bigger sprocket to get a more usable 1st I'm sure). I let the bike sit over the winter and recently got the itch to get back on the trail so I put on a new chain, rear sprocket and changed the oil. Got ready for a quick little test ride around the block and when I let the clutch out.................nothing, bike won't move. Starts and runs normal, no noises, clanks, etc. I can feel it go into gear, but when you release the clutch there's no movement. I can get it to move a little on it's own if I'm off the bike and on a flat surface. Here's what I've done so far: - verified the clutch cable is working (ie, moving the leaver on the top of the engine) - adjusted the cable just about as far as it would go. - pulled the disks out and they look fine with plenty of life left From here I'm not sure what to check next. Any suggestions? Thanks!!
  3. I recently purchased a '15 TTR230. Getting ready to change the oil, so I took a quick look at the manual for anything out of the ordinary that I would need to know. It says to remove the oil bleed bolt and then run the engine til oil comes out. Sounds like that could be messy. Is this something that needs to be done?
  4. Need the bowl to a 2008 TTR 230 carburetor ASAP. Pls let me know or text me at 9038184854
  5. I recently have purchased a 2013 ttr230 so I can ride in the summer. The few problems I am having are the valve cover closest to the exhaust is leaking on start up and run, it doesn't look like it is seated properly, its seems to be over to much on one side so I don't think the o-ring is seated properly allowing it to seal and I don't even now if there is an o-ring there as I am the fourth owner (also wondering what the torque specs are for those three bolts on the valve cover). The front master cylinder has a slushy white substance in the bottom (too much water in the brake fluid?) also am wondering how I should clean it out with out it getting in the brake lines. The master cylinder also has a thin layer of liquid around the cap and lid after around 12 hours it seems like its either water or brake fluid but neither is good and the diaphragm is in good shape. I'm not sure if I put the cap back on to tight and pinched the diaphragm not allowing it to seal properly, also I have went around the master cylinder point where it seals with the lid with 500 grit sand paper and cleaned up the gunk on that too, making sure not to scratch the surface too deep (which i didn't). The spokes on the front wheel are loose beyond belief and was wondering a good way to tighten them and being able to keep the rim true because not all of them are loose just the majority. The rear rim also has a broken and a few loose spokes was wondering if I went to a dealership if they would just sell me 1 spoke. None of the spokes are seized.
  6. Hey, I’m looking at getting my almost 15 year old son a bike. He’d be riding it almost all the time on trails, not very much if at all on tracks. I really like the ttr, and I’m looking at the ttr230. What do you guys think about that bike. Or something similar that you like more. Thanks!
  7. In April 2017 when I was 13, I bought myself a DRZ 125. In November of 2017, I sold that bike and bought myself a screaming YZ85. When I got bored of the low top speed of the 85, I sold it and went back to the 4 stroke. Right now, as of April-July 2018 I have had a CRF230F with MANY performance parts. I am beginning to want more power and am wondering something. I keep switching back and forth between 2 strokes and 4 strokes but I think I want my next bike to be a 2 stroke. Unless someone can give me good reason otherwise, that's what I want to go with. Anyways, I'm wondering whether or not to jump the gun and get a 250 2 stroke or just go for a 125. I've ridden many 125s during the period that I've had the 230, and they just don't seem powerful enough to satisfy me over time. On the other end, I don't want to get a 250 and be scared of my own dirtbike. I'm a lean 5'8 guy that weighs 135 pounds. I carry most my weight in my legs and arms which helps me control and kick over the bigger bikes lol. So what do you guys think? I've tamed every bike I've owned pretty quickly so far, but I think it's just because I haven't owned anything really fast. Anyways, I will either go with a 250 or 125 depending on you guys' opinions. Or some of you will suggest a 4 stroke? Any suggestions/recommendations appreciated! Thanks!
  8. I was wondering how would you lighten a flywheel and should I do it I’m a pretty aggressive rider but I am also pretty careful and cautious but I don’t really use my breaks I usually rely on engine braking do you think I should or not? And how do I do it?
  9. Whenever I start my ttr230 I have to have no choke, or very little. If It has some choke even when cold it will rev up a small bit then die off. What could the cause be? I have the 38 and 130 jets in it. does this mean it is running lean or rich, or something completely different. The bike still runs perfectly it just takes a little bit to get it started.
  10. What's up, I just got my used ( but like new ) TTR 230 2011 for one heck of a deal (1300 with 400$ worth of equipment). Me and my friend have been riding mine and his bike past couple days like crazy, but his crf230f has got alot some acceleration on it. I'm not trying to make mine better than his I just want to explore the world of modding on a dirt bike. Also when starting cold it can take up to like 30 seconds to get it going. What are some mods you guys would suggest trying? I hear people say rejetting will help a whole lot out, if so can you link me to where you bought the jets and how I should install them? I don't want to be doing anything too pricey at the moment because I just bought it.

    TTR 230 Mods

Carb Mods The recommended baseline jetting seems to a #38 pilot and a #130 main. The TTR230's come with a TK (Teikei) carb stock and jets are somewhat difficult to find. Stock jetting is a #36 pilot, a #125 main and a 5C20 needle. 12. so i have a 2020 yamaha ttr 230 with probably 40 hours on it i mostly ride trail and i find it a lot slower than my friends bikes so i’m looking to upgrade and i’ve been talking of facebook market place with a girl who wants a even trade for my bike for a 2013 kx250f with 33 hours on the original engine she wants to sell it because it’s just to fast just wondering what other people think i should do
  13. I just got my first bike it’s a 2008 Honda 230crf the guy who sold it to me already had a street legal kit on it (lights, mirrors, speedometer) but all the electrical isn’t working Who/where would you recommend to learn how to fix that and what is the best online parts store
  14. hi all. my girlfriend whos getting more serious into racing this season has started to outride her klx140 suspension wise and was wanting something a bit bigger and maybe with some more power. we found a nice looking 09 230 with a lot of mods done to it. most of my issue with the bike itself besides that its a bit heavy for her is the cold start. it plain sucks. it runs like its jetted properly plug color is about as good as any air cooled fourstroke i've owned. has an fmf pipe on it and a powerbomb looks like an older twin air or moose air filter cleaned and reoiled. fresh oil change with yamalube. and a fresh plug. i have to flutter the choke more than i would think on it. (no i havent checked jetting) this is literally my only complaint on this bike and curious as to what anyone else did with it or just dealt with it? im only concerned with it is if she wants to ride it sometime with one of her girlfriends she cant just pull the choke and press the button like her klx, just like to make it as simple as possible for her. the thing was a steal of a price and rides awesome! and she loves it too has a rear disc brake and a hydro clutch too anything else you guys have to these? its been on a pretty good diet so far but do the lowering links make them feel a hair less heavy up high etc
  15. As I was inspecting my new-to-me bike that I just purchased, I noticed there is a grove on the back side of my front brake rotor that goes completely around it, and you can feel it with your finger nail. I have noticed some poor performance, but I figured it was because of the new pads that the previous owner installed just before I bought it hadn't seated yet. However, I've ridden a couple times and it doesn't seem to get much better, if any better at all. Is that enough to explain why when I pull in the brake as hard as I can, it only slows me down a little, instead of going into a stoppie and over the bars (as I wish it would)? Should I look into buying a brand new rotor? I have no pictures of it, I'll try to post some when I can.
  16. so i was out riding my ttr 230 and it was running fine as usual for about 10 minutes and then i was going up a hill and it just bogged out and shut off. its electric start only so i tried to start it to go up the hill and it wouldnt turn over, i pushed it up the hill and let it sit for a few minutes and tried starting it again and it wouldnt crank over the light would blink when i pushed the starter. so i tried to bump start it and it didnt start, i tried again and it started and it would idle but when i gave it any gas it would sound terrible and want to bogg out and die. so i just put it in 4th or 5th gear idled it home. the next day or so i went out a tried to start it and the little light didnt even light up when i turned the ignition on. im pretty sure its something to do with the ignition so if anyone knows whats up ill take any advice. i rode it feb-april about 3 times a week about 30 miles a ride with no issues and it sat over summer for a few months and thats what happened my first ride out. thanks in advance
  17. i have an 07 ttr 230 and i bought it with a bent back rim and 4 missing spokes, but runs great in amazing condition. just wanting to know is it worth getting a new back rim if the next one will do the same? and i know theyre not really for jumping but i only weigh 130 so would i still ruin a new rim? is there another compatible rim? thanks in advance
  18. Can anyone tell me the build differences between these 2 bikes? Reading the specs, I see different length, height, and ground clearance, so that part is obvious. You can also clearly see the frame is different. I assume it has the same engine and gearbox. So, what's the difference between the 2? Is one "built" to be more rugged? If I were to make and assumption, the K line is more MX and the T line is more DS, but the dimensions on the T2 make it appear more MX the the K2. I am looking for one that my wife and daughter can ride, size wise, they would be fine on either. Neither one is an aggressive rider, and riding would be limited to light trail riding. That being said, I would want to get whichever one could take a beating better, should I decide to use it....or my son when he gets bigger. Thanks
  19. I am not sure how much use Ward Mountain Trail #208 just south of Hamilton, MT gets. Anyone else ride this trail? Regardless, I thought I’d share because it takes you to an elevation of 9,119 Ft, the top of Ward Mountain. The trail was more challenging than I anticipated, with some steep rocky sections, but the TTR 230 is a mountain goat; gotta love that low stock gearing! You gain about 5,000 Ft in elevation in the 6-mile long trail. Lots of great views! Also wanted to share that the “uncorked” TTR 230 jetting works at higher elevation. I have seen others asking about this on here. I followed the off-road.com article and went to a Yamaha 130 main (white plastic ring fit over new jet (maybe reduces slosh in float bowl???)), Yamaha 38 pilot, fuel screw 1 turn out, removed the snorkel and screen from air box (but did not drill/cut air box) and removed the exhaust insert (but did not alter the spark arrester). The TTR 230 did seem to run better and it did fine all the way up through 9,000 Ft. Avenza is great with the Bitterroot NF MVUM maps.
  20. Im rejetting with 130 main and 38 pilot and im wondering what I turn the fuel mixture to. I have heard people say one full turn and others two full turns (from it being screwed all the way in). I dont know which one it is. Thanks!
  21. Ok so apparently a complete back rim is impossible to find for a ttr 230 and I dont feel like spending a ton on one from a parts site Are there any other back wheels compatible with it? From other models makes ect ect?
  22. I have been riding dirtbikes for most of my life and will be turning 18 soon and I was planning on street legalizing my small ttr 230. I realize that the bike is quite underpowered for road use but I was thinking that if I switched the 13 tooth countersprocket to a 15 I could use it for minimal used at speeds from 50 - 60 mph. I was hoping to use the bike in college as a cheap commuter but I cant decide whether to put my money into street legalizing the bike or buy a bigger bike like a klr 650 or drz 400 s.
  23. I purchased a used 2022 Yamaha TTR230 (15hrs) last week. It was working fine for the last couple of days, and I didn’t really notice any clutch slipping or have problems shifting. I might add that the choke was left on overnight if that has any relevance. I went to start the bike this morning, but when I put it into gear the bike stalled with the clutch fully pulled in. I tried again, and realised that the clutch is not working at all. I have tried adjusting the clutch multiple times which has not had any effect. Please, any help would be greatly appreciated!
