engine casings as a set ?

Does anybody here know of it's possible to change 1 half of an engine casing ?

I would think if the bearing holes are drilled better not.

Other say that Honda 's have so tight tolerances that it's no problem.

I would like to know for mid 80 Honda's, (would never do it on old English things)

The clue is if the OEM sells the cases individually or as a set, the later implying that the bearing bores are machined with the two cases together. Honda usually sells each case but on some XR heads the cam bearing bores are half in the head and half in the cam cover so the bores are machined with the cam cover inplace, and then sold as a unit.

I have asked this more times but never had a reason I am comfortable with.
