How to distinguish between HOTCAMS and OEM?

3 posts in this topic

I heared that hotcams adjusted differently (timing).

How can I tell if I have OEM or hotcams installed?

Thanks in advance.

If you have a 400 or 426, and you use an OEM 450 cam, they time differently. The Hot Cams for a 426 will time as if stock.

Most aftermarket cams will have some sort of stamping on them that identifies the brand.

Hotcams have a number stamped on it between the cam bearing and the first lobe, generally the number starts with 'HC'. Hotcams are also typically black in color while stock cams are grey.
