DOT Tires

Getting my 2012 WR450F plated up here in Washington and was wondering what other guys are using for DOT tires. I perused the dual sport forum and read those reviews but was wondering what you guys are using and what you like/dislike about them.

Thanks

I love the Dunlop 606 rears in 130 :) Never had a decent DOT front so I can't comment there...

MT43 rear

XCMH front

Pirelli

or

Motoz F/R

non DOT Fav - MX51 front, Desert IT rear

where in WA are you?

Seabeck. It's great I am only 10 minutes from Tahuya State Forest trails.

As far as DOT tires go, I really like the Pirelli MT21 front & rear.

Pirelli Scorpion Pro front and an MT43 rear.

Never actually used a DOT legal tire on the wr even though it is road registered :) . I do run Dunlop D606s on the DR and have had good luck with them.

Agreed, Pirelli MTs have worked well for me on the WR as a DOT approved tire. The 606 is okay on the KLR650 but the carcass is a little too rigid for me on the lighter WR.

Heck! I've raced MX with those same Pirelli MT21's! That's how much I like them!!!

MT21s are not all that great IMO. you guys probably haven't tried the scorpions or XCMHs up front. the rear MT21 is fine, but there are better tires for offroad.

I agree that the MT43 is probably a better all-around trail tire, I just didn't care for the way the square-ish profile behaved on the pavement. I've also had the Scorpion up front and liked it as well. Can't say I've tried all of the tires, so you may be right about the XCMH.

Get the cheapest DOT tires you can find. After the inspection, put on some knobbys.

I'm a fan of Motoz tires, they are DOT approved more aggressive dirt tires than Dunlop 606's, they last much better than 606's (I'm 90% dirt and 10% pavement) and they are 2/3rds the cost of 606's.

Yes I have used the Dunlops too and quite frankly they were good too but with a much better selection of soft and intermediate terrain tires that are all DOT approved and a cost that significantly cheaper than 606's my vote is for the Motoz

Of course you understand that's just my 2 cents

I ran a little known tire that not many like, the Michelin AC10 in a 110 on my '12.

I really liked it, at 12-14 psi it took almost everything I threw at it in sand, rocks, a little mud, and some good wet dirt.

I found it spun enough, and hooked up enough for everything I rode it on. It cornered well and hooked up in ruts too.

Keep in mind it was a 110. DOT

Didn't last very long, but I am hard on rears.

Any Kenda Off Road DOT tire will be superior in the traction vs wear ratio.
