00 426 Questions on Engine

I had a mid 30's crisis, and bought a 00 426 that had been sitting for about 4 years, and has maybe 20 hours total on it. Well after taking it to the mx track, I came off a little table top and snapped the rear hub, which resulted in alot of trouble. Well after replacing all that, the bike will not kick now, the kickstarter is locked up, but if I put the bike in gear and roll it, the kickstarter kicks like there is no compression. I took the motor out and peaked inside, and everything is ok in motor. I talked to the local bike shop and they said it might took a gear out of the transmission?? Not sure what is causing this, but I found a 02 YZ426 complete motor and transmission on ebay. I am just want to make sure that the 02 motor will fit in my 00. Thank you.

Yes th 02 motor will fit in you 2000. Actually the 1998-2002 yz400f and yz426f motors will all fit.

Not so fast. There is, as I recall, a difference in the size of the swing arm pivot between those years. If that's the case, you can probably solve the matter by swapping the steel inserts that the pivot passes through from the 2000 to the '02.

Now then, if you'd rather not blow up another hub, see to it that you set the chain tension correctly. You need to place the bike on a stand so that the wheel is off the ground. Then, measuring from the rear chain slider bolt on top of the swing arm, set the tension so that you can lift the chain 2" above that bolt. Otherwise, it will be too tight when the swing arm passes through the center of its travel.

Will the insert for the swing arm come with the new motor? Can I solve the problem by buying a 02 swingarm? Thanks for all the help, new to this website and am enjoying all the help

In order, yes, they should (one on each side), but if not, you can buy them, and no, the larger bolt would not fit in your frame.

Holy cow, answers with the parts information attached. It doesn't get any better then this!
