2012 WR450 CA pricing

did a quick search on this and it looks like people are starting to pick these up.

has anyone purchased in CA yet, and if so, what is the general thought on pricing? looking online it's all over the place as usual, range is from 7200 to 8100.

specifically i'm in NorCal, if that helps.

True, but as usual there is a gap in Silicon Valley pricing vs. everywhere else in CA.

As an example, it looks like up in Sacramento/Napa i can save %10 (if you believe their web pricing)..

I priced one Saturday at 8350 otd. (thats wiith Indaiana 7% sales tax). I thought it was pretty good, yea or nea? He also offered to exchange the stock batt for a super B 8cell for something like $43 more.

Dealer cost on that bike is 7600 with no incentives or rebates.. Just sold 1 last week for 8200.. If someone is buying them for 7200 they are getting a hell of deal..

Tax not included in that price, 6% here.. wouldnt be in business long only makin $108 on a bike sale.. $8350 OTD is a good price..I think this one was around 8600 OTD..

That's exactly what I paid (8600 OTD) with a few extras thrown in. They trimmed the bars and installed barkbusters, and sold me the FMF at cost.

that is good to know as well, based on a much higher tax rate & fees here in NorCal (8.25%) i would like to get close to that price as well.

I am a little puzzled by some of the "dealer cost" figures that I am seeing in this discussion. The bike costs the same to every dealer in the country. There are differences in the finance packages that a dealer negotiates with the bank for the money to pay Yamaha for the motorcycles. I do not know those figures, but it obviously puts a small dealer at a disadvantage when competing against another nearby dealer with a large franchise and good credit. There are also factory incentives and sales contests that also allow the dealer to sell a particular motorcycle purchased under an incentive plan or finance plan for less money than an identical motorcycle purchased under a different incentive plan or finance package.

My good friend bought a 2012 WR450F from a San Diego, CA area dealer the last week in April. He paid $8,000 OTD, which included: 7.75% state sales tax (for those living in CA, he is a resident of the County of San Diego i.e., he doesn't live in an incorporated city); 2% DMV title and registration and $X amount for dealership document prep (also called stealing). He walked in off the street and didn't know anyone there. His "home" dealership in the San Diego area wanted $9,300, including state and city sales tax of 8.75%, for the same deal. Using Dirtbikedid32's numbers without running them through a calculator, it would seem that my friend lucked out to find a local dealer who has a business model wherein if you sell enough motorcycles for less than you paid for them, the volume of sales will result in a profit.

The bottom line, is you will have better luck trying to find the dealer's cost of a Turkish rug for sale in the bazaar in Istanbul than you will finding the "true" dealer cost of your new motorcycle.

BajaFool, that is excellent information and finally from someone in CA!

From my POV I could care less about the true dealer cost, all i care about is the OTD cost that i'm going to pay. if i can take the advertised prices for both North of (Chico, Napa, and Sacramento) and South of me (LA, San Diego, etc.) and then use that as a baseline to negotiate a fair price with the small local dealer, that is what i want. Knowing the dealer cost may be helpful for negotiating with them, but OTD is what counts ultmately.

p.s. your buddy scored big IMHO, hope i have 1/2 of his luck.. :cry:

yup, i get it..

ultimately your assessment is spot on (i.e. cost + incentives will yield the OTD price). i do believe however that competition from differrent markets yields similiar results for even the small market single sport dealers. if not, i can always drive to socal and buy a bike as needed.
