2012 YZF450 transmission problem?

5 posts in this topic

Recently at a race my '12 YZF450 hit a false neutral from 4th gear on the face of a jump. The first time it happened I thought I must have hit the shifter accidentally. The second time it happened I definately did not hit it with my foot and I ended up having to bail off the bike, destroying the bike pretty good. The bike maybe has 20 hours on it. Has anyone experienced this? If so will Yamaha help me out in any way or am I on my own?

not sure if this is very relevant, but my old 04 hits neutral sometimes going from 4th the 3rd, it did it before my 4th gear failed, and now it has a new transmission with shift forks drumb, and both new shafts and gears, and it still hits neutral every once in awhile, if it does i let off for a second and it'll slam in. thinkin maybe its an unlucky event, maybe call up your dealer and see if warranty would cover it?

The exact same thing happened to my 2011 last season !

Hoped that Yamaha would have addressed the problem by now !

Did Yamaha or the dealership you got it from do anything to help you out?

Nope ! They claimed they never heard of the problem before.

Although I've heard of many many broken Yamaha gearboxes the last 10+ years !

In my opinion : Yamaha's one and only quality issue.
