another spring question

4 posts in this topic

i have a 2012 yz450f with a 5.4kg rear spring that beats me to death on rough tracks. the free sag with this spring is 42mm and race sag is 99mm. will a 5.3kg spring get me to 30 to 35mm free sag and smooth things out or should i go with a 5.2 spring. almost forgot i weigh between 155 and 160lbs depending on the day (without gear).

Put the stock spring back on. You've got too much preload on the spring.

Either a 5.2 or a 5.3 should be right. The 5.3 might not get you the sag reading you want, but it will be closer than what you currently have. If you're a fast MX type, choose the stiffer one of the two. If the bike is beating you up, spring rates might not be your only problem.
