08 Rear Tire Size, 120/80 vs 110/90

I am sure there are many topics on this but I can't get the search function to work. So I have an 08 that is in need of a rear tire, it has the 120/80-19 on it and I was wondering if there were any advantages / disadvantages with going back to the 110/90-19 the 07 had. Does the different aspect ratio change the handling of the bike since it changes the attitude?

The wider footprint of the 120/80 is supposed to make turn in slower than a 110/90, I've run both on my '09 and didn't really notice a difference. But at the same time, I wasn't trying to "test" how the different tire sizes felt/handled. I have switched back to the 110/90's though.

Something else to consider is weight, I've never weighed both tires back to back but I've read that the 120's are heavier. If the difference was significant enough, it could have a negative impact on handling for sure.

It all depends on the individual tire. The size is supposed to indicate the width of the tire body (120 or 110mm) and that the body of the tire is either 80 or 90% as tall above the bead as it is wide. The trouble is that the standard doesn't specify whether the width measurement is taken from inside or outside, there's no rule at all about the shape of the cross section, and none of this tells you anything that relates directly to the tread. The result is that some of one size are more or less identical to some of the other size, and really, they're more or less interchangeable.

I prefer the 110/90, though.

If it's a rutty track or course, or muddy, I prefer the 110.

Thanks for the help guys, I think I will give the 110/90 a try. If it slows me down I will just use the excuse that my new tire is 300 grams heavier than my old ...... :bonk:

Personally i prefer the 120/80 over the 110/90.

It seems to give me a fraction more traction on race starts and out of corners, and i seem to get slightly more wear time out of it aswell.

I didn't realy notice any handling differences apart from traction, seemed to turn the same, and i dont know why but i can run a slightly lower pressure 10.5psi whereas the 110/90 seemed to hook up better with 11.5psi.

Just my opinion.
