You need to dual register it

Meaning you'll pay two fees. A green sticker reg fee and your plate reg fee.

Get your lights signed off. Vin and smog sticker verification. Statement of fact sheets filled out.

There's a whole step by step process from calif dual sport web site. I'll try to find it for you

Technically any green sticker bike is plateable.

Just did my '14 wr 450. Even with the emissions sticker that says off road use only!

DMV is clueless to this process. Need to pt and walk them through

Clueless as in they dont do them often. Nothing illegal going on here. When you have the knowledge of what needs to be done and are friendly they tend to listen and learn and you leave with a plate.

I have a plated, dual registered '13 WR450F. I just would hate for some miss guided public servant to make it their goal to make it harder for someone to plate a motorcycle.

My 09 is plated since new

Also I dont have, havent had and dont need a green stikie on mine. why?

Here's my '08

Michigan trail, I'm plated so I can take off from my cottage and go anywhere I want without any hassle from cops. I take trails as far as I want, then take roads back if I please. Once you go plated you never go back.

Just plated my 08 for the first time on Saturday. (Illinois)

 

Just went to the DMV with the title and $41 and they handed me a plate.  

 

Now I just need all the other stuff (dual sport kit) to keep from getting a ticket.

 

The only reason I registered it is to have a portage bike for getting back to my truck after the kayak trips down the river.  I sold my previous portage bike (XR650L) and my ST1100 doesn't like my trailer.

I have an 01 WR426. Never saw much purpose in a dual sport bike until I got mine street legal. Now I just ride around looking for dirt roads, power lines, and seasonal roads. Love every minute of it. I can bounce between all of those and hit the single track all in one day making for a great ride. Still love my 2 stroke but this is a whole different ballgame. As for tires, my Kenda Trakmaster2 rear gets me around the roads and highways legally and still rips through the Michigan sand. Congrats on your's too btw.

Same thing when you do the "plated out of state and has 7500 miles trick " in California,  there is nothing illegal about it.  The trick is finding a DMV worker who is familiar with what boxes to check on the form they fill out for VIN verification.

 

There has been a few of the local folks who have first registered their bike in South Dakota as a non resident and then worked that into a California plate.   I did mine this way.

Installed all the goodies and got my 07 plated in California (imagine that) a few months ago.

Just picked up this Plated 04, still not running right! Found broken pilot jet, now it still stalls at Idle and don't trust it to ride anywhere. :-(

Transfered a title on an 04 from michigan to Illinois, no questions asked.

Normally once it's plated for street most states will except it as a street plated title
