Motul 5100 Ester 4T Oil 15w50

5 posts in this topic

I bought 2 liters of the stuff yesterday (the dealer recommended it) , I want to change my oil tonight but then I noticed the oil was SG rated not SJ rated.

Can I still use it?

What's the difference between SG and SJ rated oils? :)

That's a trick question. I bought some Golden Spectro oil which said that it was SJ on the web site, but was only marked SG on the bottle. They emailed back with an explination for their oil (see this thread: http://www.thumpertalk.com/ubb/Forum6/HTML/002076.html) so I've been using it without problems (only about 15-20 hours on the bike though, change every 2 or 3 practice days). You can check with Motul to see if it's the same deal. I hope this helps..

Thanx Sirthumpalot, according to what I read SG is just an older rating than SJ(that meets the same requirements as SG).

I'll give the Motul a shot and see if I run into any problems.
