replace cam bearings on 99 yz400f??

can you press them off to get some freshies?

You could, but the cam sprockets are press fit without keyways, so if they are removed, they have to be re-indexed manually in order to get the cam timing right. Neither Yamaha nor the aftermarket sell the bearings separately for that reason, although you can probably cross reference them.

Any motor builder in the country can do it for you for pretty cheap. It's not something you can do at home without the proper knowledge or tools.

thanks fellas. was just thinking about it. i like fresh bearings.

would it really be worth doing that? why cant u just buy hot cams or is it cheaper to get new bearings?

bearings are cheap. cams are not

how much are just bearings? i never really heard of cam bearings going out.

Ordinarily, they don't. The bearings will outlast the cams by 50% at minimum.

The cost of the bearings will be minor compared to the expense of having them properly installed.

the tools to do a job like that will be expensive too, right?

You need a press, and some means of correctly re-indexing the cam sprockets within a degree of where they belong. Furthermore, the sprockets should not be removed and reinstalled without tack welding them to the camshaft for security, as the press fit will be weakened slightly by the operation.

ya that is some thin i would not want happenin to me, dont have the tools or time :busted:
