rev limiter

I have a 99 wr400. It seems obvious that there is a rev limiter because it cuts out in all gears when wide open. Is this normal? and what is it for? Does this bike come with a rev limiter? Is it so you don't wind the fire breathing machine out and do some engine damage?

Yes, it has a rev limiter. You shouldn't run it up there so often. And yes it prevents damage.

When I first started to get my jetting correct, I couldn't beleive how hard the bike would run, right into the rev limiter. I try to shift more often and utilize the awesome torque of the blue beast.
