06 yz450f steering damper mount

I just got a scotts steering damper from a friend and i'm looking to mount it on my 06 yz450f. I know I can order it from scotts but I'm having a hard time spending $210 for a sub-mount for a damper I got for free lol. Does anyone know a cheaper option or have a used one for sale? Thanks

Roger

Send the damper to me, I'll be happy to only have $210 into a Scotts damper for my pig :smirk:

Better than having $520.00 in it for everything new! :smirk:

on the serious side though, if you buy used make sure that it is from an 06-07 YZf 450, 06-08 YZF250 or a 07- WR250f/450f as most of the parts are interchangeable except for some bolt and studs which we can supply inexpensivly. Later model bikes use different mounts and would defeat the purpose of trying to save money by buying used.

I'm aware that I can't go wrong with the deal I got :-) I just wanna be cheap all the way lol. Thanks for the Info Eric. I'll make sure I pay attention. Basicly I have a little time because i want to ride it a few times before I put it on so I can notice the difference. I haven't taken it trail riding yet. I just bought the bike 3 weeks ago and i still have my yz250 2t.

Eric, do you happen to know if the submount kit will work with a clarke 2.6 gal tank?

I do. The answer is yes, it will.

Thanks Grey. You must live on this forum. I've been reading a lot about a lot of different things on here and you seem involved in every one of the topics :-) Just the last couple of days I've been reading about SS oil filters..... Probably ordering a scotts after I use up the 5 paper filters I have left now because of you.

Where where you before I bought those? lol

If I knew when you bought them I might be able to tell you.

I'm just kidding. I probably will buy one when I run out of the paper filters.... I just bought my yz450f about a month ago. I wanna make sure I like it better for trail riding then my yz350 2t before I invest to much.

Will the sub-mount kit off a 09 wr250 work on my 06 yz450f?

That I don't know. Your best bet would be to ask Scotts directly through their web site:

http://scottsonline.com/

I sold the sub mount off my 06 YZ450 when I traded the bike in for my 2010 earlier this year. In my research, I learned that Yamaha changed something about the setup from 07-09, and consequently my mount would only fit another 2006. I'm not sure about 250's or WR's, but you could check like Gray said with Scotts to know for sure.

Oops, I didn't read Eric's post completely before I made my above reply. Apparently Eric is saying the mount is the same from 06-07 YZ450f's. Funny though, the Scott's website has different part numbers for every year for 06-10. Why the different part numbers from 06 to 07?

I believe it reflects a difference in the top triple clamps.

Most of the parts will work but you will need to use different bolts/studs for the bottom of the sub mount as they are a different size. Give us a call and we can get you set up with the right parts. You should be looking at about $15.00.

Thanks-

Eric

Thanks a lot for all the help. I think that would be the way to go then. I think I can pick up the mount for around $75 then get the parts from scotts. Saves me over $100 :-)
