CDI Swap?

7 posts in this topic

Here's the thing....my mechanic says my CDI has gone out. So I figured before I dropped the $300-$400 on one I'd check around. So I found one for a 2000 Yz426F for $90 new. The thing is I have a 2001 and I don't know if they will swap out no problem. I called two shops, one guy said it should work and the other said it probably wouldn't. So I thought I'd check with you guys. Has anybody else done this or have any knowledge of this?

Thanks

Have you checked e-bay? Usually can find them fairly cheap for 450s not sure about 426. I don't know if the 2000 will fit or not, its not the exact part number but that doesn't mean the connector isn't the same.

Well that's where I found it was on eBay. The part numbers is what threw me off. I've noticed that sometimes they change part numbers and didn't know if they maybe just changed between the years.

The firmware in it is probably the only difference but gray will probably know if it will work

No, I don't.

But If I wanted to know more about it, I'd review the connector pin out diagrams in both manuals, and if they look the same, they would probably be interchangeable.
