What year starter clutch is best for an 03?

6 posts in this topic

The starter clutch is the same as newer years. The starter gear is different in '03 than other years due to differences in the crank.

The starter clutch, aka starter one-way assy., Yamaha p/n 5TJ-15590-00-00 http://shop.thumpertalk.com/oem.asp?partcategory=220289&manufacturer=6&category=3&year=2005&model=5237, is the same in 2003 as it is in 2005. The starter gear is different because in 2003 there is a bushing and a smaller bore to fit the smaller diameter crankshaft end. You have to use the '03 gear and flywheel with the '05 clutch.
