Camelbak- The Great Satan!

Recommended Posts

I thought I would try to pull this out of the "Hare Scramble" topic since it was getting a little off topic.

Any way I emailed Don Amador of BRC and he was able to enlighten me to what was going on. Here is his response:

(Start of email)

Steve,

CamelBak is a member of the Outdoor Recreation Trade Assn (ORCA) and ORCA

with the supposed

support of CamelBak had joined forces with The Wilderness Society in a

joint venture called

Businesses for Wilderness (B4W). B4W had as one of its stated goals...

"to promote

the Roadless Agenda of Bill Clinton."

Also, Camelbak was not working with, or advertising in, OHV related

magazines, assn.s, etc.

Since many off-roaders and OHV manuf. had fought that effort, I and others

replaced our

water systems with other units and let Camelbak know that we were doing

that.

To make a long story short, CamelBak has seen the error of their ways and

have joined

the M/C Industry Council, and are buying ads in DirtBike Mag. etc. and are

going to

sponsor some OHV enduros...

Even better, I think ORCA has backed out of the B4W program and is going to

support

some other conservation efforts that are not so anti-access.

Take care,

Don Amador, BRC

(end of email)

It sounds that they are repentant so perhaps we should not be so harsh.

Too late for me. I will NEVER buy or recomend their product. For those who are interested in a hydration system, get it from someone who has always supported the sport, not from someone who wishes to change their ways becuase they are loosing money.

I have cut my Camelbak up into small pieces and am going to send it back to them with a nasty letter. I think I will buy the Thor system since it is one of the very few that does not use any Camelbak parts.

Believe it or not ........Walmart has some decent hydration systems with a place to put a few tools.

I think they are around 15-20 bucks.

I have the Thor now but have thought about buying one from walmart with the tool compartment..........(I have a lot of friends with 2smokes!)

CamelBak is good! I have proof that the company does not support or promote land use revokeation. The person who made the quote was probably fired. If you want to read the letter that i was sent by the company president, you can E-Mail me at Syklefreak@aol.com. Like i said, Camelbak has no wishes for anti-cyclist groups, or even for that matter, the EPA ( i hope). CamelBak is not out to close lands. just read the letter i was sent, E-Mail me!

They send those letters to me to. They are playing you. It's BS! Believe it if you want, but why not buy from someone who positively supports the sport like NOVACC or MSR?? Screw camelbackstabbers.
