how to yz450 cam into yz246? (im am a poosay)

i picked up a 02' yz426f and i am 150lbs and suck at starting it, infact my friend who has 100lbs on me cant even always get it started. we've tried fallowing the how-to starts but i guess we suck, i replaced the spark plug last night hoping for easier starts but no. i can sometimes start it when its warm but never have been able to cold ? i really would like to convert it to motard and possibly get it street legal some how but never while its this hard to start.. not sure yet (will check it out) but i think the carbs and valves are all ok cause it runs very well when we do finally get it started..

is there a pdf how to / walk through or somthing on how to swap the cam? ive spent a while googling but usually end up with dead links to PDfs. where is the best price to pick one up? looks like there $150+ in the TT store and ~$100 used on ebay.

i just need a 03-05 yz450f exhaust cam because it has the auto-decompression mechanism right? no other parts?

Now, in my opinion, you should skip the whole process of using an OEM Yamaha cam from a 450. Why? Because Hot Cams and others have been making auto decompression cams expressly for the 400/426 for quite a long while now, they bolt right in without all the fudging and counting pins baloney, and the way prices are now, they're also cheaper. And the sprockets fit the chain better. And the timing sets just like stock. Wait, I said that....

You'll like it much better after installing that hotcam. I have one in my 426 and it starts just as easy as my 250f, besides being a little harder to kick. I just pull the choke, push the kicker down until the motor is at tdc, then bring the kicker back up and give it one good kick. It almost always starts on the first kick.

i found the exhaust cam for 146 new, can i install just a stage one exhaust cam? not the intake? will i need to rejet?

got a hot cam ordered few days ago, way cheaper (new) on ebay think it was $128. dont have a manual for the bike , can anyone point me to a pdf manual or at least a cam change how to?

Remember that your new cam was made for the 426, and DOES NOT require the special timing procedure laid out for the YZ450 cam. Install it like a stock cam following the manual and the instructions that come with it.

CAM CAP REASSEMBLY AND TORQUE IS CRITICAL! Follow the procedure carefully, and never force a cam cap down by tightening the bolts. Seat them by hand.
