06 CDI yz250F fit yz450F?

Hi all,

I have been reading about the 06 CDI box mod to get more power out of the low-mid range on 08-09 Yz450s. There is a seller on ebay selling one for an 06 yz250F. Is this going to be the same as for a 450?

The seller did not give me a part number and also mentioned that there are no returns on electrical.

Thanks

No.

You can find that out for yourself in the OEM section in the TT store (browsable microfiche and parts lists). 5XC-82540-00-00 for the '06 250F CDI, 2S2-85540-00-00 for the '06 450F CDI.

While it may "work", the 250F curve parameters are certainly different than the 450F curve parameters. Pretty sure the rev limiter is too; don't know what else might be different.

Fwiw, I don't buy anything "no returns..." on eBay because you never know what you're going to get stuck with and how much of an a$$ a seller will be if you have a problem with that kind of a sale. Just saying...

Great info. I guess I should have thought to look up the part number from a schematic. The listing mentioned YZ250 and YZ450 is why I asked.

dont try. go get a yz450f cdi the right one

Part numbers won't tell you. If you went by that, the '06 YZ450 CDI wouldn't work on an '08 because it's got a different part number.

The rest of what was said is correct, however, and there is an extremely high probability that the ignition advance curve of any 250Fwould be entirely wrong for the 450.

I was going by what I found in the searches regarding this. 2S2-85540-00-00 (TT Part number) is the one I found and was going to try and match this up with what the seller might find on the unit. Most of these sellers are listing multiple years and models (250-450, YZ-WR) for their CDIs for sale.

At this rate I might as well buy an OEM new from a parts list and know I have the correct one because ebay is listing all kinds of keywords to get more hits I suppose.

True, Gray. I listed the part numbers just to show that they were different units (not necessarily electronically incompatible). That also holds true that CDIs for different year/same model bikes will have different part numbers because of the different curves in the ROMs, even though the rest of the electronics might be exactly the same. We're probably saying the same thing here.
