Battery removal

2 posts in this topic

In an effort to experiment with radical weight cutting on my 08 WR450, I am using a YZ suframe, airbox, and rear fender which is 2 lbs lighter. The plan is to get a lightweight Lith battery that will fit in the small YZ airbox to continue to use the e-start. For now I would like to run it without the battery. Without the battery obviously the ignition button will not work, so how does the bike run without being powered up(even by kicking it)? Also, is it necessary to ground the two negative leads that were connected to the battery?

Do a search, been answered many times before. You either need a battery or a capacitor as the CDI needs the "constant" 12 volts to work properly.
