Geomax mx51's who's running them?

39 posts in this topic

have they lasted as long as they say.:excuseme:

Hell no!!

Edges were broke off the knobs 2nd ride, and I ride in a LOT of sand. The front is a joke too! the 31 is a better tire on everything but concrete.

i put a mx51 on a 2008 yx450f about 6 months ago. I don't have an hour meter but i've put ALOT of trail miles on it and 3 harescrambles. I love it and will buy it again. My buddy has a ktm 450 and he's got a bridgstone something or other on it and it hasn't held up worth a damn, he put it on 3 weeks or so after i did.

It's one of my favorite tires. As with everything the opinions will vary based on rider weight, psi, cornering style, size of bike, riding terrain, etc.

thy dont last long, and lasting longer than a bridgestone. thats not happining the 404 is a better tire and last twice as long! it does work good on hard pack when new but rounds off quick. i do want to try the mx31 i only ride mx and most tacks i ride are soft and muddy.

^ try the bridgestone 404, you will like it an lasts alot longer than the 756.

i've heard a couple people at our track say the 404 had knobs tear off, as well as tracking odd after the new wears off. havn't had the chance to try them so i cannot say first hand

Ive used them on a variety of bikes and tracks and dont have anything negative to say about them... they hold up fairly well, I give them a 8 out of 10 overall. Ive had one tire chunk on me out of the 20 or so rears Ive ran on my bikes. One of the better tires Ive used, I ride MX only.

I ride a lot of rocks. My issue has been side knobs splitting. Talking front here. So far on the 51, have 12 hours with no side knob splitting. Good traction, seems durable so far.

My previous experience (from my records):

Dunlop MX31 Front Tire (noticed side knobs splitting @ 11 hrs)

Maxxis Tire (Noticed Side knobs splitting @ 17 hours)

Stock Dunlop (Noticed Front side knobs splitting @ 27 hrs)

I find the MX51 to be one of the longest lasting tires I've used, particularly the rear. Last one lasted a good 6 months of desert racing and riding. Traction is right up there, too. The rear holds a corner under power particularly well. The front wears well, but isn't terribly impressive in the desert. I may play with a 952 some more.

MX31's didn't wear any better than a 756 (bad) and I wasn't impressed with it's performance at all.

I run mx 51's on hardpack tracks and i ride aggressive and i have not torn a knob off yet and they last and perform well, i'd recommend them.

someone should invent a tire that is 20% cheaper than the "norm" 20% longer wear life and works in all conditions, oh ya cut me in on the profit as well! thanks

Are you guys talking about dunlops? I have always liked the 752 and hten now the 952, but my new bike needs a new tire, debating the 952 or the mx51. And I'm not sure what size front is right on the mx51, was going to put an order in today from work and can't check my tire size, so might wait unless someone knows off hand. 2010 450f

80/100/21 and MX51s will be my choice after Winter is over. I have a set of 952s also I may try. Going with MX31 with kold kutters and kenda sand mad with kold kutters for winter

k thanks cause i pulled it up and it had either the 80/100 or the 90/100 listed as the right size, so is the 80 the stock size?

The 952 is a long wearing, lower priced tire that is very versatile as to the type of soil it works in. The rear actually works a bit better straight line in deep sand than the MX51 (which, oddly, works much better than the MX31 in sand), but it doesn't corner "quite" as well as a new 756, and not at all as well as the MX51. The 952 front, OTOH, seems to work pretty well overall, and as I said, it seems to work very well in deep sand.
