Riding thumpers on the road

3 posts in this topic

Is it true that riding my Wr426 on the road sitting on constant revs will destroy the motor quicker than a rat up a drain pipe. :p

Yes and no. Run it at 55 mph with stock gearing and you'll be fine on a properly maintained bike.

Run it at 70 mph on trail gearing with low oil and hard shifts then yes.

It's a dirtbike. Running anyway other than that way needs some brains.

I putt around on mine on roads but not on the highway with stock gearing and it's been fine. Guys motard 400-426's and just gear them real high (16-43) for the highway and seem to be fine.
