Price for 2006 50th Anniversary yz450f?

Looking at a locally listed 2006 yz450f. Im pretty sure the 50th anniversary is just a plastics package and so doesnt add any value to me. The owner says the bike has about 65-70 hour on it. It has a new weisco piston, and new iron man sprocket and chain. Other than that the bike is all stock. Tires are dunlops that are about 60 percent. The owner rode at a locally track so it does have some track time on it. It appears to be in very good conditionfrom the outside. Looks well maintained. He said he would take 2500.. Does this sound like a deal or something i should pass up?

Factor in the new tires around the corner and that it's going to be a 5 year old bike soon. Sounds like a racer; are the spring rates set for you/your weight? If not, factor that in, too.

I would not pay $2500 with winter and the economy, but you live in a warm weather state and can ride hard for the next few months and beyond.

If you truly want a YZ450F and have a budget set, and don't want any other bike or model or cc size, get it and ride.

Like you said the anniversary edition adds no value...all it is is yellow plastics and a black seat cover. I would look for an '08 though if you can find one close in price...they improved the cornering alot and the suspension somewhat.

Was 06 when the four strokes got SSS suspension or was it 08?

2006 got the good SSS suspension. I love my 2006. I have been getting it more dialed as of late, it's working great, no desire for a newer model. I put the One industries yellow "Hannah" plastic kit on so it looks like an anniversary model. The yellow plastic is great, it doesn't look beat like the blue ends up looking. Best of luck to you!

Unless you found something cheaper, don't know why you'd pass on it. If he can verify the hours and it's clean, with the new parts and low hours for $2500 it's a very good price. Not to mention you could maybe talk him down a little on the price.

It doesn't matter what bike you buy, when you're buying used chances are you'll need to put a few parts on it like tires or brakes or handlebars or chains and sprockets. And any bike will need the suspension dialed in for you. Hell, even a brand new bike needs things changed to fit your size, riding style, whatever.

If it's been rode hard and raced, then I'd see a problem. If the guy was just hitting the track on practice days and it doesn't look clapped out, I wouldn't worry too much. 65-70 hours is very little time for a bike that old, I doubt this guy was a racer.

Well, yeah, verify probably wasn't the right word. If the OP looks at the bike and the owner can convince him the hours he says it has looks legit was kinda what I was getting at.

To give some perspective, my '09 450 has 60 hours on it, all of which are race hours. It looks like it has way more hours than that because of the amount of roost the bike has been peppered with. It's not beat up or looks clapped out, but it does look like it's been raced. A buyer would look at this bike and think I was lying about the hours.

My '00 426 on the other hand has seen around 300 desert hours and looks like it hardly ever gets ridden. I could pass it off as a hundred hour or less bike easily by changing out a few worn parts and touching up the paint on the frame, but then a buyer could notice those things on an old bike.

I take impeccable care of both, but the environment they live in takes it's toll. As it was, I bought the '09 used with 6 hours on it, all race hours, and it only looked a little better than it does now. I bought the '00 used with 10 hours on it and it looked like a brand new bike. I had no concerns about the hours on the '09 because I bought the bike from a member of my race club and had known the history of the bike. The hours were legit, but looking at it from the casual observer's perspective you would have thought they weren't. I had no concerns about the hours on the '00 because, as I said, it looked new.

If the bike is clean enough that the hours on the meter, or whatever the guy is saying it has, look legit compared to the wear and tear on the bike, then it's a pretty safe deal. If like you say the pegs are worn down or the bike is completely covered in roost rash or there's any other signs of excessive wear, then beware. It could still be low hours, but be all race hours, or the guy could have put an hour meter on 65-70 hours ago on a 100+ hour bike when he had to rebuild the engine or something.

Don't confuse the situation though, this applies to every single used bike out there, even the ones with less than 10 hours. It's true, the owner can't really verify anything, you'll need to feel properly convinced.

I just sold my 06' for $ 3000.00 in Northern, CA. If you can get that bike for $ 2500.00 and it looks decent, I would buy it. You can spend $ 100.00 or so on new plastic. Aluminum frames bikes look like new with just a little make over. (Well as long as the wheels are still round)

I had that bike and now have a 08. The only reason I got the 08 was contingency money. The difference in performance wasn't that big.

I would ask the seller about the valves. Been replaced, adjusted, does he know what you are talking about. If he says "what valves?" walk away. If he says he checks them every six months and they are still in spec then it may be a buy. That plus pull the seat off, is the air box clean? Final clincher is if the guy has a clean garage. Really, these bikes will last a long time if they are maintained. But if not then you may want to price a top end job before writing a check.

I have to say, that is not a good yard stick at all. Most guys I know, their garages look like a bomb went off, but their bikes or cars or whatever hobby they have are the pride and joy. :p
