Need Advise on my 450

ITs from Colorado and they dont require a title and registration to ride everywhere like Iowa does. So they seem to get lost in the change of hands. I understand this because I grew up in Pennsylvania and no one ever had titles for bikes.

However, the guy gave me the VIN off the bike that Im going to run at the Police station just to make sure its not stolen.

Also I just talked to him again an dhe said that the bottom end was opened up and regeared for preference only. wanted more length between shifts. And also had a hot rod crank installed at the same time. I also asked if any bearings or seals were replaced while in there and he said the mechanic states the were ok. (not sure what I think about that) Thats like rebuilding an engine and using the old gaskets.

Anyhow, Im not sure what to do. I just want a reliable bike that I can enjoy in the woods, and Im having a real struggle with this decision.

People keep telling me that I can make the 450 just as reliable as a 2t. Im just a little leary about rebuilds and everything that comes along with the 4t. Ill be honest the only othe r4t that I have owned was a 98 yz400f that was a total headcase. I had nothing but issues with it. So I can say that im a little nervous about this thing. But, on the other hand ITs clean, has a ton of power, and I know all the history.

Now this other bike is an 09, and is a 2t, which is what I want. However, it doesnt look at clean, I know it was raced, Has had major engine work done already, and no title(should be able to obtain one from iowa as long as its not stolen), 2t's are easier to work on and less engine worry.(ie. valves, timing chain, etc..)

I still need more advice to go one way or the other.

Thanks

Anyone else have any thoughts on the engine work on the 2t?

Are you talking about a MSO? I would consider that different that a title. Maybe there is still a lien on the bike though.

Is he trying to say he had WR gears put in it?

No wr gears. He could not verify which gears were installed. Also he said the original title was with the original owner. Im going to pass on the deal. and just try to sell mine

Well I received another offer. Someone offered me a 2004 KTM 250sx + 1000k in cash. They have the title for the bike as well. I have never owned a KTM but would like to. My only concern is that its an 04. If anyone has some input on these bikes i would really appreciate it. THey are also only 30 min from where I live so I can check it out before making the deal.

Thanks guys

I have some cell phone pics of the ktm but I will post the better pics once emailed to me later, so you guys can take a look at it and let me know what you think

For accurate info regarding the KTM 2 stroke, please post in the KTM 2 stroke forum.

Don't take a bike with no title... period. Everyone has a good story about why they don't have a title. If you have one to give, you should get one back. There is no reason to take a bike without a title.

Also the split cases would kill the deal for me. You have no way of knowing what was REALLY done to it even if you test ride it. As close to stock as possible is always the goal. Then you can make it what you want reliably and knowing exactly what is going into it.

I know nothing about KTM's except really fast guys are usually sitting on them passing me by.

Take the 1000K (1 million dollars) and buy any bike you want. I'm guessing you meant 1k though...

I'd keep the 450. I have an 07 yz450f and I don't see me ever buying another 2 stroke and nothing less than a 450 ever again. 450's are so much fun.

Yeah Thats why I didnt go with that bike. To many red flags!!

The 450 was a good bike but I actually got rid of it for an 08 KTM 250XC and after riding it, I dont know why I ever got away from the 2t's in the first place.

But thats just how I feel.

The 450's are easier to ride. Not as much wheel spin and dont have to clutch as much, but just wasnt for me. Didnt want the maintenance and after riding 2t's my whole life, I missed having one terribly bad.

Thanks again to everyone that gave me great advice and guidance.
