How to clean valve cover surface/gasket

Checkin my valves on my 09 a few times which i find to be pretty simple. However im completely sick of having to clean off the old liquid gasket junk. Is there anything that would make for easier cleaning with out ruining the gasket. Right now i use wd-40 and toothpicks and slowly remove the old stuff which is taken me like a 2hrs to do.

Yes. Stop slopping stuff on the gasket. it doesn't need a sealer except for a dab of contact adhesive here and there to hold it in position.

hmm... so that stuff i cleaned off the first time the valve cover was removed, was just adhesive and not yamabond?

Probably was some form of Yamabond, but it isn't necessary even so. Normally, the gasket on the AF models tends to stick to the cover rather than the head. If you can avoid dislodging it for the most part, it will seal just fine without adding anything to it on reassembly. I never do. :bonk:
