09 or 10. need advice.

i know its kind of a no brainer to go with the 2010 450, but if you can get a hell of a deal on the 09 model would you get it? i am currently selling my 05 450 and want to upgrade to something newer just not sure which route to take. any advice would be great.

I had the same choice. Just remember to factor in the cost of a new pipe on the 09. It's a must have.

I actually got to ride a 2010 outfitted with a PC pipe before making the decision to buy a left over 09. I love my new 2009 with my 2006 pipe and don't feel one bit like I'm at a disadvantage on the track.

Factor in resale value and the 2010 makes up the differance of purchase prices. Most likely anyway.

2010 is a better bike, the mags aren't lying when they say that. I own a 2010 and have ridden my friends brand new 2009 back to back and there is no question that I like the 2010 more. Suspension ride quality is similar, but the fuel injection and handling of the 2010 are much better. Lap times might be close between the bikes, but the 2010 feel is better. The efi still needs tweaking but better than a carb no question. Really depends on how much extra you are willing to spend for it, for myself there was never that question however... I wanted the 2010 regardless of extra over the 2009 and don't regret it at all.

Same here! Had an '09 left over next to the 2010 for $5600 but I couldn't do it cause I knew I would regret not having the new crap after a while.

to get the 09 would be a no brainer for me. i'm not a pro or close to it.

BEE5S4 you didn't say what kind of riding you do!

I'd take the 09 based on my needs/abilities and pricing...but in this day and age of marketing/hype and technology the resale of anything with FI is gonna be huge. Even back of the pack beginner class racers "just gotta have fuel injection" so say their buddies. Yeah, you'll be at a huuuuge disadvantage if you don't buy a new or used bike with FI......never mind the fact you run bald tires, are out of shape and have the reflexes of a drunk grandma (no offense to drunk grandmas with lightning quick reflexes).

I'd take a new 2010 any day, but seeing as how my 13 year old nephew passed me on a straightaway because his cornering speed was exponentially faster on a 125 two stroke I'll look for the screaming 09 deal.

Sorry i should have been more clear. i ride mx only and am a average rider, nothing crazy.

i too am one of those people who wants and doesn't need the newest and best out there. thats the decision i cant make. do i settle for the 09 which is all i really need or buy the newest and best out there just to have it??

decisions decisions

i am the same way as you but if i can get a new bike for half the price(just guessing on price but i think im close) then that is what i would buy.

Tough choice to make! I for sure didn't need a 2010 but I really had carbs with a passion so it was an easy choice for me. I will say one thing, I am way more comfortable on the 2010 than anything I've ever been on (haven't ridin an '09 though). I don't care if im faster or slower but I sure do have a blast riding it.

I had the same dilemma several months ago. I also rode the 10 before making my decision. I came off an 08 which I liked a lot and the price difference is the reason I bought the 09. The 10 handles a little better and it is definitely crisper in stock form, but for $5k OTD, it was a no brainer on the 09. I put an exhaust on it and had the suspension worked and it is good for me...Vet B MX only.

well as soon as i sell my 05 which is in the classifieds, i plan on going to the dealer the next day to make my choice. i am leaning towards the 10 but i always love a good deal...

thanks for the replies

Sure, most people won't be able to ride a lot faster on '10. My '08 is all I would ever need.

BUT there's more to the decision than just rider capability. I want one because I'll NEVER have to change jets again.;-)

Not to mention when something goes wrong, its oh let me plug in my tuner and check for codes and read the data as opposed to tearing apart that FCR yet again and cleaning out all the crap.

^^^ couldn't of said it better.

There are also allot of good deals on the 2010 now. You should not have to pay more than $6500 to $6900 out the door depending on where you live. Get the 10 it is amazing!

I just got my 2010 and have rode a few different bikes recently and im glad i got it its an amazing bike

forks are so plush, good on big hits as well.best ive ever ridden modded or stock

I rode the 10 on two totally different tracks before I bought the 09, for the 2500 in added cost (this was a couple of months ago) no way was it worth it. I don't know why every one has jetting issues, do it once and forget about it. No way I buy a first year bike with all the issues they have.
