FMF Ti Mega Bomb - Rattling

Is anyone else running one of these where the fitment of the header to the head is SUPER loose? I'm running 4 new springs and a new exhaust gasket/washer and it is super loose.

I'm running the Ti 4.1 Megabomb complete system, and it's solid, no rattles.

I'm only using 2 springs, not 4.

Strange that yours is still loose . . . You have the flange properly tightened, right? I could see that if you are only using the springs, it would be loose.

There is nothing to tighten. There is a collar that slides over the pipe (which is loose) and then the flange that bolts to the head is nice and tight.....

I have the same system on mine and no rattles here. The mid pipe on mine does slightly touch one of the clutch cover bolts but it doesnt rattle on it. If I remember right there is a silver sleeve type thing that goes over the header on the end that goes into the head, then a collar that holds that in there by a bolt and a nut. And then the two springs. Maybe you could post up a picture so we can have a gander at the situation. Only thing I can think of is the wrong spacer thing, maybe your using one of the the midpipe spacers?

Thats exactly how mine mounts. I bought a new exhaust gasket just to be sure then the silver collar that is loose on the pipe that seats in the head then the clamp that bolts down and then the springs to the clamp. The rattle room is between the pipe and the silver ring. It's not a tight seal at all.

By the way, Love the screen name..... Steel Panther..... Was listening to their album on the way to work this morning. A buddy of mine actually went to a concert of theirs in Dallas a few months ago, said it was awesome. I wish they would come to Florida.

I got'cha. Hmmmm . . . guess I'm lucky the silver ring/pipe is a tight fit. Not sure what you can do about that. Did you buy it new? they should be tight from the FMF factory.

Maybe for some reason the silver ring is "hogged out", perhaps you could replace the silver ring-thing with a new tighter one.

All of my FMF headers have a third piece that looks like a top hat and slips inside the end of the header so that the bottom of this presses against the gasket in the head, not the pipe itself. Are you missing this piece?

What year? I have the Megabomb and yes it comes with the gasket as referred to; they may have a different OD dimension dependent upon the year. I added a "touch" of Hi-temp silicone on the fitments to the pieces to make sure they are snug. I did have an issue with the expansion part of the header rubbing against the top end ever so slightly.

Can you take a quick picture of what you're talking about. It would be awesome if you could take a few pics of all of it put together also. I've wondered if I was missing something.

You should have pieces like this (at least all of the FMF headers I have used are like this):

You first have to slide the flange (piece in the middle) onto the header, then slide the outer sleeve on (aluminum sleeve on the left), then slide the inner sleeve/ spout piece inside the end of the header (steel piece shaped like a top-hat on the right). Then put the header on, tighten the flange down, and put the springs on. Some of the newer pipes have a slightly different shaped outer sleeve (they added a lip to it), but it is the same idea. Here is one of my megabombs with all of the pieces on (this has the newer outer sleeve with the extra lip)

Here's a quick cut-away sketch of how it should be attached to the head:

Thats exactly what i neded to see. Just got off the phone with FMF and ordered the top-hat piece. Hope I didn't hurt anything because I've been running it without that piece for about a month now. :smirk:
