Adding e-start to 450F?

My best friend has an '09 YZF450. He's mentioned that he is liking the idea of electric start more and more. He keeps saying he wants to find a way to add electric start to his bike.

Can you add e-start to this bike? Would it even be worth it?

Personally I think my friend is just a puss and needs to suck it up. Not that I have anything against e-start, but if you didn't want to screw with a kick start you shouldn't have bought a kick start bike.

Strip a WR?

It's a bolt on operation. Kind of.

He'll need a few parts:

  • A WR450 crankshaft
  • WR flywheel, stator, and left crankcase cover
  • Complete WR starter drive assembly and gear train
  • Starter
  • Battery and mount
  • Complete WR wiring harness with the associated switches

Can't be more than $2000 worth.

Would it even be worth it?

It wouldn't be fair of me to say. That's his decision.

Hmm...I'm thinking it sounds like a stupendous waste of time. If he wants electric start he should just go buy a WR. Or suck it up and quit crying about having to kick start his bike.

don't forget a battery and a place to put it
