Rear shock oil?

3 posts in this topic

OK, I have looked everywhere including my manual, and I can't seem to find this anywhere...

What weight do you use for the rear shock oil in a 05 wr 450?

Is it 5wt like the front?

Shock oil doesn't come in different wieghts like fork oil

You need a high VI oil for the shock (this is why they are more expensive) so that it doesn't change viscosity much between hot & cold (else you get damping fade)

I use Motul Shock Oil, which has a VI of 400

I know Elka use an Exon industrial hydraulic oil

Fork oils will not have a high enough VI rating and hence you will suffer from fade when hot

Hope this helps
