DOT 5.1 brake fluid

3 posts in this topic

Yes, but DO NOT confuse it with DOT 5. 5.1 is a glycol based fluid, and is compatible with DOT 3 and 4, although it's still a good idea to flush out old fluid with new if you're going to change the fluid type.

DOT 5 is a silicone based fluid that is NOT compatible with any of the above fluids, can't be used with ABS systems, and requires thorough flushing of any system previously filled with any glycol fluid before using.
