2006 yz450f tranny slip

5 posts in this topic

I own a 2006 yz450f. all stock exept for a 08 stock exhaust. My tranny seems to fall out of gear and then jump right back in gear. I have narrowed it down to either third or forth gear. If under WOT it never does it but usually7 under half or less. Would this be my shift detent, drum or shift forks. Anyone else with this problem. The bike has less then 40 hrs

Check your front sprocket and main shaft. See if it has any play (movement back-and-forth). I had a similar situation last year. Mine starting leaking oil behind the sprocket. Turned out the the case was cracked and missing a chunk, (Possibly from a rock or something). If this is the problem you will have to tear the whole thing down and replace the transmission gears and either replace the case or find someone to tig weld it back together. Sorry, but this is not a cheap fix. Good Luck.

See if this sounds like a possibility:
